My First Grow Room - Seed to Bud

Abnjm, Gorlax, or anyone else:

You guys seem experienced. Here's a question for you. My plants are 4 and 1/2 feet tall (3.5 from the top of the soil). I am 17 days into flowering and they still seem to be stretching taller. I only have 10 inches of height left to raise my light. Question: do you think with only 10 inches left I will be ok? Do the buds fill out over the stalk to create the cola or does the bud just grow up vertically stacking on top of itself? Does the plant stretch too during the 2nd half of flowering? Maybe I sure start trying to tie down my plants?

but the lights closer to the plant so it doesnt stretch i have a small closet so i put them really close im just hoping for a 1 cola plant thats what i want but if i had more space i wouldnt care

Dog, my plants stopped vertical growth about three weeks into flower. The tallest cola added 40" in that time...... The increase to height I've seen lately is the buds filling in the top of the colas. Maybe an additional 1" - 2". I don't think it is stalk growth...

When I figured out I was out of room, I just used some string to pull my taller stems over. I didn't break the stems to make a 90 degree bend, I just pulled them over until they were in an open area of canopy, and away from the light. They start growing straight up again within hours.

I am not a weed baron, nor do I play one on TV. Just a noob putting my $0.02 in.

Good luck with your grow! :blsmoke:

My plant got way taller during flowering.. and its still getting taller and taller. I had my shit 3" from a 150w HPS and it grew right up into the light. Gave it another 3", grew up into the light... etc etc etc...

In all my prior grow plants have either double or even triple during flowering. With this on going grow, my plant was still growing after 4 weeks of flowering. With only 10 inches to go I would start bending your ladies.

This tutorial was a lot of help and I sure other can be found if you google around.

I screwed a bunch of screws at the top of the pot (works if you are using platic) and then used strings + some special gardening wire made for that very purpose and was able to really manage my plant.

Hope this helps a bit, good luck and I am looking forward to seeing your progress.

It's easy just go easy you don't want to snap your stems, make sure you are able to adjust your setup easly so you can day after day bend them your way.

Have fun :)

Ok. I've started to tie my tall plant. Basically i'm going to create an 'S' curve in order to stave off any possible height issues down the line. Right now I've started the bottom of the S by tying the plant towards the front of the room. I will tighten as necessary. Then as the plant grows I will tie again, a little higher on the plant, towards the back of the room. This should do me.

Clones have all rooted (but 2 and then look like they will). So I'm happy about that. I have no idea what I will do with them all? Probably go with a sea of green after this grow. I will definately keep some mothers and try to create a bush with 3 topping phases - 1 shoot topped to 2, 2 topped to 4 and finally 4 topped to 8! Thats the plan anyway.

In spring I will guerilla plant an army of female clones across the countryside.

on a side note: geez, you can really blow a lot of time tweaking your set-up, eh? Every little tlc moment takes ages.

Also, did you guys hear about underphire's attic grow? He went to the cannabis cup and on the way home the DEA fuckers at the airport pushed him around and he took his grow down. pity. was following his op since he germed at the same time as me. the worst part is he hated the cup and i think the dutch nation rubbed him the wrong way.

on a really side tangent, I'm trying out Google Chrome instead of Firefox and it seems to be holding it's own. Seems like a winner.

Loving how after watering the leaves point up - some at a 45 degree angle. it looks like the plant is thanking the heavens, palms pressed together in prayerlike gratitude, for rain.

some neat pics. under the canopy shots, underage bud porn, and then...what?? what the hell are those? those look like balls!! On one plant I've spotted a club-like (think playing cards) formation on the stalk. Could it be a hermie? Or is the calyx just late to protrude? if i don't act could one little testicle explosion ruin the whole crop? any advice from those with experience would help. ive included a close-up shot and one with more context to help.

On picture number 7, you have a lovely hermy, on the 8th that is a male unless it's also an hermy. I would destroy or moove them far, far away from your ladies before you get pollen everywhere in your grow.

Damn! not only are those some nuts, but they are some big ones! I am with Gorlax... carefully remove that herm...

BUT.. Ive read that hermseeds have higher likeliness of being female.. So... somethin to think about bro! Maybe let it run its course, get seeds...

EDIT: Oh, and i love the shots look up at the canopy and the light shining through.

I still say dont destroy it. Allow it to grow, you will get some bud and seeds that are said to be naturally more likely to be female seeds!

Just remove it from the area...

But if that's not doable then, Im not sure about castration... It would be a bigger shame if there was a mis-hap and it pollenated your ladies.

castration works but just one nut left hangin can b a mess...good luck...nice pics and jounal! rep+

If carefully watched in a systematic manner, you can win the nutsac battle.:peace:

But if you miss just one sac it can go all over your grow with the fans and whatnot.

I would never try to breed a herm on purpose, I would kill the genes even if I tried to flower it.

Great looking grow, your plants look happy and healthy.

+rep for you

well i took out the plant... and got out my razor blade and magnifying glass and went dr. mengele on scarlett's ass. anything looking even remotely ballsy got sliced. i worked quickly, mercilessly and with high-precision, almost psychoticly calm - very mr. blonde. She's all woman now but i will definitely keep an eye on her tranny tendencies. sorry, i know i should have banished that bitch but the bud beheld a beauty too bountiful to bear butchering.
