HLG550 vs Gavita? Anyone with experience with either/both?

How convenient, did HLG share this document with you on their website?

Nope, never seen that before nor that inda grow LED light. Though im well aware of their induction stuff. What am I supposed to be looking at exactly lol? The inda grow is using 50% more energy to provide like 15% more light. Still looks interesting though.

edit: I'm guessing you linked that because of what they mention about PPFD? That's why i mentioned the HLG 550 has a way better spectrum than a DEHPS in relation to the PPFD stuff.

Definitely no broke, maybe forgetful....
Bomb drop on the led purists - these babies are vegging under a 2 year old 600W Hortilux Blue MH

different light altogether and you need to concentrate on your canopy.

If a 600 QB can replace a 1k Gavita its a big deal. Opens up the door for people with large room but little height to go up to the next level and fairly efficiently in the scheme of things.

"Gavita" not "Gravita"

bothers me that chilled has it wrong on their site. attention to detail is kind of the standard at this point

Lol what the fuck.... not only does chilled have it spelled gravita once, but over and over and over and over again... How could they make that error?

edit: Though I am surprised to see they have their own integrating sphere... Man id kill to have one of those lol. Such a useful piece of equipment.

Im stretching 1 gavita 750 (max 850w)
Over an 8x8.(7.5x6) and so far its working

Of course i could get more or bigger if i stuffed more light in there but i want to know what ONE can do

Feel free to find my journal :)

All that said.

For a gavita you need at least an 8 ft set up

But they dont run hotter then a normal 1k

Like i said im not trying to grow lettuce and i know my space can use more light.

But so far so good ... also i use them in the winter for a heat source.

I want to build a full strip build for summer runs though if i dont go outdoors to save power :)

which ideally are better anyway...

a proper photometric lab is about a half a mil investment and thats just the equipment, not counting the time to make sure everything is NIST calibrated, keeping up with latest measurement standards, etc

can u redo this assessment using realistic height distances for the gavita? heard they are always pretty high up due to the heat
Up high but usually overlapping multiple lights also. I think you'll only see a single light being used in a tall tent or small grow room with reflective walls.

Are you putting these in a tent? Running a 1000w gavita DEHPS in a tent is not realistic at all, you need a lot of vertical height. The sunsystem AC/DE hoods are more suited for running dehps in a tent.

Id look into the HLG 600 kit instead of the HLG 550. The hlg 600 kit is $723 prebuilt, and is 620w versus the HLG 550 which is only 510w.

The HLG 550 is closer to a replacement for a single ended 1000w hps, but will definitely give a gavita a run for it's money. The HLG 600 kit will definitely replace a 1000w gavita.

The LEDs will save you a ton on your electricity bill, they'll put out WAAAAAAY less heat, you'll run less risk of light bleaching your plants, you'll actually be able to see your plants under them, and in my opinion will increase quality across the board. Oh, and you'll very likely see higher yields too.

edit: forgot to mention: You can actually veg under the HLG light, whereas you'd be silly to veg under a dehps lamp.
Can we see your grow with the DE and the HLG light?

Dont have either, im using raw data to make these conclusions. The HLG 600H puts out 1450 PPF, and cree tested the Gavita Pro 1000w DEHPS and got 1830 PPF (a bit less than the 1900 or so gavita lists). Then when you factor in the spectrums of the two, it can be assumed that the HLG 600H is definitely a comparable light. PAR isnt everything, the spectrum is very important too. Not to mention the HLG can be placed much closer to your plants than a DEHPS due to the heat a dehps puts off, though in an OPEN grow room this doesnt matter much.

But you can go over and check out some of the threads where people are swapping from DE to COBs/QBs and take a look.

So you're giving someone advice on pure speculation and with no experience using either of the two lights? Well that's just great isn't it.......

I mean I hope OP makes their own conclusions from the data.... They mentioned 3 pounds or so per 4x4 table using DEHPS, which has been done using about the same watt per square foot with less efficient LEDs many times....

The title of the thread states he's looking for people with exp using the lights and you have not used either. Don't you think it would have been important to disclose that?
