Yeah I believe reading through all the rules that those would be allowed since everything is inside the cup. The only one it breaks which is why I'd like a ruling (lol, feeling like I'm in court) is the extra air pruning holes in the sides of the cups...
Yeah you're within the law on the fabric surely, keen to hear the ruling on the extra air holes in the sides..

I'll sketch up a design of a 16oz party cup with 1/4" hole in the bottom that can be blocked. A 10oz cup will be used as a netpot of sorts that has walls made of fly screen holding coco inside the 10oz cup. The 16oz cup is filled with eg 1" of perlite on the bottom, then the 10oz cup sits on the bed of perlite and the walls are then filled with perlite.

I'm thinking you could use it as a sip/Hempy of sorts, filling the outside with water and letting it soak the coco and maybe then fill the perlite walls with nutes (to saturation almost?) Then you could let it dry for a while and refill or take the drain out and flush the salts/coco/perlite out? Thoughts?

That sounds elaborate but doable as long as everything is inside the cup. Only thing I'm still out on is whether it's just easier and better filling a straight up cup with as much medium as it'll take. Towards the last few weeks you're watering daily and even multiple times a day, any reduction in medium means more maintenance/watering.

Air stone in the bottom of the cup, fill with nutrient water, net pot and hydroton, rockwool, or just a neoprene collar that fits within the cup. Maintain water level, nute level, pH by HAND with regular hands on maintenance. Better bring time and skills to the table going that route IMO!
Would you just tip the nutes out every now and then? Also could you hook up a small peltier water chiller or is that seen as a

Yeah I may end up with a plain cup of coco in the end as well depending on ruling. I will try make said cup though and if its dominating the other cups I'll take her to the finish :) I'm thinking the extra water it will hold can give a buffer. I don't mind watering by hand multiple times daily either and prefer to as much as possible if it can handle it haha

Theres been a lot of talk about fabric and res' and what not, but I'm still a little unsure about what we can and can't use.

A four gallon smart pot with a blumat system is OK, right?

Great, I'll start vegging now.

For real though, take this a little less seriously, and just have fun with it. I know there is a sweet prize up for grabs, but there's no reason to modify the rules so everyone can try and reinvent the wheel. In the end, there's probably going to be like 10 plants that do well, and maybe three styles of growing between them.

Here's the response I got, even conceding compliance but a protest for the record: "Your Lucky I'm Allowing 1 Hole!!!!!!"

Seems like people are taking it a bit serious. I thought this was just a "for fun" thing? Throw some medium in a cup, throw some water, nutes, and a seed, and see who has the biggest... green thumb.
Elaborate designs and modifications have nothing to do with growing performance or getting an edge. They are primarily directed at intimidation of fellow competitors, get with the program - lol (just kidding, really...)

Fuck.... I thought it was 16oz equivalent cup? On volume rather than a specific cup. Can I use a party cup in a cup? The rules doesn't say you can use more than one cup per plant?

I think if you had the rules as 16oz container, drain hole allowed anywhere etc... It wouldn't restrict so many styles?

you need to go back to page 1 and re-read the original post over and over until you have answered ALL of your questions.

My bad if this is a stupid question.

So we can't drill a hole into the side for a Hempy? Only 1, 1/4 hole on the bottom of the cup. OK. What if I were to put a 2 inch long 1/4 wide tube in the inside of the cup centered on the 1/4 hole that's on the bottom of the cup?

Everything would still be inside the cup and no extra holes are made. I think if I put a small screen on the end inside the cup it would stop perlite from clogging it and it would act as a perfect mini Hempy, hopefully with out breaking the rules of course

@The Dawg will have to answer, but it's inside the cup. think you have overcome the hempy issue...

Okay, here is my design...

I am going to custom CNC a solo cup out of high grade titanium with built in aeration for bubbling, with a micro air pump. I am then going to fly to Mt Fuji and take some soil.... then going to Swaziland to get some soil from the area where the original Swazi cannabis came from... then I am going to go to Oregon's Only and custom design a straight to flower mix with enough to run exactly five custom CNCed cups for the desired time. Then I am going to work with engineers at Caltech and MIT to develop a geothermal heating system that heats and waters the cup using an atomic clock accurate to .0000001 seconds per year. Then I will get some gold and mix it in the water... because gold. Then I will fly it all to NASA in Texas where they have a humitidy and temperature controlled room with the most precise sun light replication system in the world. From there, I will setup a closed loop encrypted feed video system for monitoring.... and a pez dispenser. After it is EXACTLY 61 hours and 11 minutes old, I am going to feed it 300cc of PH 5.678 water procured from Jerusalem. At the same time I will tilt the cup 14.5 degrees in a circular pattern with an 11g movement up and down in order to aerate the medium and ensure PERFECT saturation.

Either that... or I will throw some medium in a cup with a seed, water it, give it my normal nutes, and see what happens. Who knows.
