The only reason I bought on Amazon over eBay was because I could see review based on the item from Amazon vs reviews of people on eBay

it would be more correct to say "seems like the HID and the blurple mass procuded Led and the Cree Cob guys are passionate about thier lights",,,, because there are far more debates about the merits of Cree Cobs and blurple china lights ,
Hid is proven and many DIY led guys would rather steer someone towards bulbs before low watt led chips panels, its still sad to me that they are being sold to people, do they work, sure, but if your going to spend 3 plus months investing in a plant, why not get the most for your time, the Cree cob guys are all pulling 1.30 to 2.0 grams per watt

How about using blurple for veg then hps for flower? if doing perpetual harvest

sure that will work just fine,, heck i keep my original mars 300 that i bought a couple years ago as a spare back up light,, incase my cobs have an issue or something,, ( yup i went down the same path lol) ,

some of the cree cob guys may be pulling that but my vero 18 light driven at 600 ma only produced 0.5 GPW with super silver haze grown in soil.my T5s pulled 0.56 GPW so essentially the only difference was the price of the grow light. I do agree that cheap chinese grow lights are a waste of money. my 300watt mars hydro lost 3 diodes the first month and performance was so poor that I did not complete the grow using them.seems experience with LEDS is somewhat mixed. some people love them and some people hate them. other factors like strain and growing conditions may effect the outcome.but one thing I think we can agree on is that good quality LEDS are an expensive option.I am very happy with my T5s and 2G11 CFLs and feel no urge to defend them or try to convince others to use them.seems even high end LED makers can't agree about the best spectrum.and the heat issues with HIDS might require some undesirable structural modification in a closet grow. but the debate is still entertaining

Indeed. I don't think I'd ever use cheap chinese lights again. Growth literally went from snails pace to warp speed once i got rid of my mars 300 and switched to a 400w HPS.

unfortunately heat can be a problem with HIDs in a small closet grow and I do not feel like punching holes in my house for a ventilation system. if I could use HIDs the new LEC lights look very interesting. these are high pressure MH bulbs that produce a broad spectrum light that is close to natural sunlight.but even with an MMJ card I need to be discreet about my activities and with T5s heat is not a problem.someday LEDs may be a cost effective option but that day is not here yet.my mars hydro is collecting dust in my tool shed. I may replace the leds with a few COBs and use it as a shop light or patio light so it's not a total loss. :lol:

just ran the number based on data from mars hydro, GE and sylvania. 3 300 watt mars hydro produce less lumens and less PAR (umoles/meter squared) than a 4 bulb 4 foot T5 fixture while using twice as much power. all that extra power is converted to heat.about as much heat as a 150 watt hps and only 10% more light.if you are going to use LEDs than DIY COBs seems to be the only way to get good results.wonder if anyone has tried mixing 4000k cobs with high end 430 and 660nm diodes.looks like and interesting test when I have a little extra money
