@ Realstyles: I can use some more advice if you don't mind.

I'm thinking about how to best position one, two or more panels and need to decide which heatsinks to order. If I use:

4 CXB3590 3000K 72V
4 CXB3590 3500K 72V
4 CXB3590 5000K 72V
12 Ideal holders
12 LED 80 degree Glass Lens
3 HLG-185H-C700A Drivers

Would I be best off to use a 24x10 heatsink for the 3500K & 5000K and a 10x12 for the 3000K for bloom

or... Three 12x10 with 4 of each kind of COB on it

Or, should I fit them all on one heatsink say 30"x10" and switch off the 3000K during veg? If I used one larger heatsink I'd still have to put two fans on it.

What do you think?

You can do it 10x12 but you will still need fans because my heat sinks are for active cooling

My question is one I understand well, you're used to 5000k (vegging, grow)
and 3500k for the stretch and 3000k for flowering?

I still does not understand that is why you used all 72v instead of 36v

this is great! have you been getting any PPFD readings? Just wondering what percent power you are running and what the PPFD was?

just a suggestion here but :
when mounting multiple cob holders drilling precise & square is critical
why not make a drilling template / jig outta 1/4 flat stock even a hardwood would work
place the cob holder on stock clamp well even hot glue drill pilot holes then check that it lines up & boom
a fast way BUT accuret to set a line of cobs drill mount holes
templates are way easier to use over a center punch (which is fine for single use )
templates can be made cheap by anyone

I'm not an authority in the least on these lights. I do know volts times amps = watts so a 36 volt COB will require twice the amps that a 72V COB requires to give the same watts. Either way, the power dissipation is exactly the same.

36V is 1/2 the volts as a 72V COB and you need a driver with twice as high of amps to run a 32V COB than you need for the 72V.

So to me, either COB requires and uses the same amount of power and has the same output and heat dissipation.

Maybe someone can jump in to say why 32V is better than 72V?

I used 72v on my 3590 just because that was the best available bin at the time. I run em on hlg 120 700. Two to a driver with space for monos. If i read the chart correctly the driver is about 92% efficient used that way.

36v and 72v are the same...but if for a reason or another you want to run your cob real low it will be easier with 36v...it is ok to source good driver till 350mA but under it is not easy!
Except for that there is no reason to prefer one or the other!

Each panel gets measured every time I make a light. The jig/ template idea is ok but it only takes a second to draw out the lines and doesn't require you to keep the template. You'd need a bunch of them because you are not gonna always make the same light. Like now I have a new light to make and I'm gonna do it differently.

I was meaning a small block slightly larger than the size of the cob holder with the holes predrilled to match cob holder mounting holes .
then the template/small block can be placed anywhere the plan calls out on a heat sink & drill the mountings holes in seconds move block to next cob placement drill again , so forth. .

anyway you got your thing sorry didn't mean to annoy the pro , i return lurkin

He's using CPU heat sinks and the light was made by a member from here I think his name is scxott something or like that

I use 3500k and http://kingbriteled.en.alibaba.com/ or http://www.cutter.com.au/ would be your best bet. I've bought from Kingbrite but haven't from cutter yet super low prices.

Consensus seems to be between 3000k, 3500k and 4000k for bloom. It's also widely agreed that there isn't a lot of difference in growth between them, and that the higher number seems to create more squat plants and the lower numbers a bit lankier ones.
