Ok, presuming the Conservatives are finally ousted, it's almost certain that the decriminalization and legalization process will begin shortly after. But just how long will that take?
I haven't been actively following the cause for a while, but I know that it's illegal because of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act including it in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I also know that the Harper Government has been trying to further criminalize it for almost their entire reign, this being attempted by numerous failed bills to amend the act.
I'm just wondering, what is going to happen when the opposite inevitably occurs and we move to strike it from being included in the act. We've had a majority government for the past four years and they failed to get their way. I'm hoping we're just a nation ready to move forward on this issue and it's met with insufficient resistance to hinder it's progress all that much. Though, I'm worried we may still be years away from seeing change.
