This is what is destroying our country

We need to take the money out of their pockets and have them "earn" their wages rather than have them stick their hands in our pockets.

Flat taxes are highly regressive. You're just handing more cash to the fatcats. How? Rich people spend a far lower percentage of their income on necessities, so you've just proposed a tax on essentials for the poor that the rich don't pay to anywhere near the same extent.
You can tax exempt food items under a certain cost (Kobe beef, faux gras taxed, burger and potted meat not) same with clothing.

You can have a flat tax that escalates with items costing more than 6 figures having a higher tax, 7 figures even higher...

I don't think there is anyone out there who looks at our tax code and thinks we got it right, nothing wrong with coming up with ideas that would fix that.

Do you know how many politicians are currently in Jail? Go check out Chicago/Illinois and Wisconsin politics. We do prosecute them all the time.

Again, if you truly understand the situation you must remove the power. The money will find a way to the power no matter what. You remove the power by moving it more local and thus distributing it.

Once the power is gone, once the policiticians can no longer manipulate the tax and commerce codes for bribes, then the money will disappear.

Business pays money to politics because politics can influence business so much.

That is the truth of the matter, you cant take the money away.
The idea that there are lots of them in jail is an excuse to change the law?! Hey, maybe we should step up enforcement, because IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE WORKING! One can only hope, right?

I think arguments for flat taxes show a failure to understand the economic underpinnings of the problem- which can't be fixed with band aids like exemptions for various items.

Fifty percent of every fucking dime over your first hundred grand. If you don't like how it's spent, get involved!

Those in power have granted themselves the power to receive bribes without calling them bribes. Let's fix that.

Or is granting themselves power the job you elected them to do? It may be your reasons, but it's not mine.

Depending on where you live it's already that. If you live in California, are single and make 6 figures, after you pay income tax, property tax and sales tax, not to mention licensing fees for damn near everything, you are above 50%.

100k in a lot of areas is still week to week living.

Exactly. So why the Fuck does Mr Romney get to pay just 14.1% on his MILLIONS in income?!

I don't have time to look, but I'm sure it's because of something in our 50K page tax code.

I don't have answers, only suggestions, but we all recognize that our tax code is a major problem. Our corporate laws are a major problem to those of us who are not rich. Gerrymandering districts are a major problem when a politician has no fear of not being re-elected.

We have lots of issues, but it seems we are becoming more aware of them. Our history has been to treat the symptoms and not the cause though, so I'd like to see us identify causes before we "fix" anything.

You skipped over the point that the politicians use the 11,000 pages of IRS code as a place to create legislation for financial favors.

It wasnt my intention to divert the conversation to what is more or less fair in society. It was my intention to show you how legislation and the power to make that legislation gives business the incentive to pad politicians pockets.

By the way, rich people EARNED the money they have. They have already paid tax on it. If someone makes 10* what you do under a flat tax they pay 10* what you do in taxes. I am not sure why that isnt fair.

Then who makes the laws?
We already have all the laws we need and about 10 million we probably don't.

The constitution is only a few pages long. Yet under its guide, the USA became one of the best countries to live in the world.

I just don't see how constantly creating new laws helps the country.

Seems to me the one power that Congress has, but never uses, is the power of impeachment.

I'm coming home today. I hear an ad on the radio. It's for a Republican running for Attorney General.....

...Dark money needs to end for both sides. And the IRS SHOULD investigate this "tax free" organization. And all the others Democrat, Republican whatever.
Because this is BULLSHIT
First, there's the issue where a POLITICAL PARTY has any g'damn thing to do with our justice system. FUCK that.

Second, there's the corrupt money issue that needs to end. At this point in our history, I don't even think it's possible to PRETEND that our politicians are anything other than the corrupt pieces of shit they prove themselves to be all the time. They need to be held accountable, and either voted out of office, or sent to jail for their corrupt practices.

Finally, there's the issue involving two agencies that have become political tools, instead of tools of the people they are supposed to serve. Both the FBI and the IRS need to be unleashed on our federal government in order to END the corrupt practices of ALL our sorry ass politicians, NO MATTER THE PARTY AFFILIATION. Both agencies are equipped and capable of finding out who the biggest shitbags are in our government, and HOLDING THEM LEGALLY ACCOUNTABLE for their corrupt practices.

Bottom line is that the political party system NEEDS TO GO, as does the bribery system in place to support them.

The whole flat tax scamnario was advanced by Malcolm Forbes. Who do you think would benefit from a Flat tax scamnario?

Are you really such a partisan hack that you don't recognize the problem of essentially unlimited money influencing politics is bad for everyone, including you?

Truly astounding

GOP targets silly fucks just like you

He recognizes the problem.
Then he tries to pawn it off with false equivalence.

Goddamn. You can get dumber
Yeah, apparently you forget something of us have been alive for over 40 years and have working memories. The Republicans are finally playing the game the Dems have been playing for DECADES and all of a sudden big money is bad.

You may have missed the SCOTUS decision on the subject. It's legal and I firmly support every dollar invested in ridding this country of the ideas and policies that you and the ilk like you support. That kind of dumb costs money to destroy.

Plus in fairness, even without "campaign contributions" you've still got legal congressional insider trading, so instead of cash donations the corporations will just give "tips".
