Found it while looking for any new plasma lights or news.
Same company that makes the HTG supply plasma.........looking at the spd and knowing that it's an MH plasma module their graph is bogus. Also has a glass spectrum filter to lower uv-b/uv-c==== 10-15% light loss..

Here is the comparison video of the illumitex neoasol 300w vs BML spydr that we talked about before(illumitex is the biggest competitor to bml) Tobacco plants are used


what do you notice that's off???

Hint..........look at the panel distances at early veg............BIGGER plants at the start of flower gives you an unbeatable advantage for final yields. Sneaky mofo's:wink:

If electricity were cheaper in California I'd take GG's advice and go HID, but I don't want crazy high bills, so I'm gonna try an LED setup this summer. Maybe if I had a commercial warehouse and power rate, tax write offs... but I don't.

So it's coming down to decision time. Jeff at A51 said that (16) RW150 would cover a whole 10x10. So if I could get away with 12, that's about a grand cheaper than the custom Cree COB rig. However, I'm kinda leaning towards the COB rig, mostly because I wanna be cool and have something custom. But also because the COBs are being designed to fit the layout I want, and the whole system is very well thought out.

The Apaches, while even more wattage and awesomeness, would be several grand more. Then again, I could just start with (3) AT600. Leaning towards the COB rig though, what do you think, gang?
I wasn't suggesting going hid. I was just giving you a comparison of what well established convertional grow light would do in that same situation...and this what you should be trying to get to with led's. If you have a space you should want to maximize that space...not enough lighting over a bigger are is bad. You would be better off in a smaller area with more correct intensity over it. Better and more buds in a smaller area.

Also I don't know how you are thinking AT is that much pricier. It the same watt for watt(pennies cheaper actually). Which is the minimum wattage I suggest to cover that area. Even if everything is top bins in the spyder, the chips(whites) still aren't on the level of AT's and a51's.
4 at600 is the same as 16 at200's, and similar to 16 a51's. 16 is what you need in smaller units for that space. If you were to only get 12 you should only use the amount of area that 12 should cover. With that said 3 at600 is like 12 smaller units. Code rbk331 brings the AT's down to $2k if you didn't know that already.

I also like the cob idea. That would be cool to see perform.

Illumitex doesn't claim a square foot print obviously because it's a rectangular fixture unlike the BML.......so they decide to do a 4x4 comparison run anyways??? and place the containers on the outside of neosols coverage area(50 degree lens angles). Why not just place the plants in a 3x3 for the bml and 4x2 for the neosol== almost the same coverage area? also the illumitex modules are driven soft (540ma) as well and could have been placed closer during veg IMO.

Basically what I'm saying is that they played ONLY into the bml's strength's in this video........that's not how true test grower's run shit:P you try to get the best yields under each light, NOT keep half the plants in the dark.......just saying

Hey GG, good thoughts. I do understand the space and lighting density considerations, and wanting to maximize potential.

Jeff at A51 is the one who said 16 RW150's would cover the whole 10x10. That's 2400 watts. I've pretty much taken the BML off the table, though I may get some individual strips built up for extra blue.

I'm leaning towards the COB thing, which actually, the diodes add up to 2080 watts, but the actual power draw would be 2440 watts. I think we're gonna run it at 240V, it will have 2 separate driver boards. I like that because I can use two separate timers so half the lights come on at a slight interval, to avoid massive inrush current to circuit breaker.

Maybe I will keep it 10x10, but shorten the canopy areas to 8' along each wall, for more lighting density. That will leave space for the driver boards, co2 and stuff in one corner, and a reservoir in another. Might setup a soil drip system with those Blumat auto sensing drip emitters, we'll see.

Like I said...I like the super DIY-by others plan. The wattage is sufficient for good results, plus where the wattage is coming from is solid as it gets on paper. I also like that your supporting a fellow community member, very cool. And of them for doing it. You could be the first of many customers to a successful entrepreneurship. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if one of these DIY boys do it.
Bulk pricing for the maker(lower cost)... a company(user "X") that knows what we bitch about already(so should be ready)...plus open knowledge of the product components....sounds pretty good to me.

But did pico start the craze...? I have to give it to him.

He couldn't explain it in human words, but mr flux gave the 411 that opened the doors for the empirical thinkers to get the most out of them efficiency wise(driving them soft...go figure ;) )

The couple full grows with them so far were great, can't wait to see how they work in a full scale garden setup.
Get that project funded and going. Good luck man, keep us posted.

Cool, glad the COB wattage has your thumbs up. I believe in the builder. I think maybe he has a day job though. He says they will run at 39% efficiency. I'm pretty excited to be utilizing cutting edge RIU tech! It'll make for a great grow journal. I should be taking delivery of the whole system in about a month. Then there will be some setup time before I start the chronicles.

yeah.. The TW isn't worth the price difference.. They have 18 watt ones now 1600 lumens 80 cri , 100w replacement for incandescent... I'd go with those. I will be adding some for side lighting eventually..

Yeah true. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Can never have too much info right. When it's time to pull the trigger i'm most likely gonna go with the rw75. Run it long side my blackstar 135w until i'm able to get another one. Figured to future proof my setup i'll just get two 75's for now and when i upgrade my tent i'll get a single bigger light to put in between 'em.

The 2080-watt CXA 3070 project has been funded, it is definitely going to happen. We were going to try some Chinese drivers that may have been 5% more efficient, but the last batch was out of spec, so we're going with the Meanwells. It's a relief actually, I didn't have full confidence in the Chinese drivers anyway.

Jeff at Area51 says the COBs are a great way to go, he likes the Veros. Total class act, that guy.

Jeff isn't building them. Or do you think he's working on some COBs for Area51?

Hey all. I'd like to graduate from CFLs in my tiny space. I have a 1ft square cab that's 2ft tall. Can't go for a bigger area til we move house so I was looking at LEDs as an option to upgrade in the meantime.

I'd like 1 unit rather than a number of small bulbs. Too many wires running around the sides of my space would irritate me - I'm a bit OCD with the tidiness!
