Supra's gonna be upset you didn't list him with SDS HY :o. LOL And watch out for lists. Fuckin evil tool of the straights ;).

I am currently running 500 watts of CFL and want to add additional side lighting. I wanted to get LED panels but was not sure which one would be the best and most beneficial. My grow tent holds about 6 plants each run.
Multi-chip spotlights/wash lights make great side lighting since they handle heat better when mounted at different angles than most grow panels who's cooling scheme goes to shit when angled or mounted vertically. The heat from the lower diodes add to the heat of the upper ones and most panels aren't designed to handle the extra cooling needed, especially budget panels. I've blown a few Blackstar 240 circuits using them as side lighting. Think it's a coincidence that the upper LED circuit blew every time? Cree LED bulbs mounted horizontally work well as a quick fix but a DIY COB rig would be even better.

SDS has not any right at all ,to be part of such list ,firstplace...
:bigjoint:

SDS lights ,are same experimental lights ,like the rest of the DIYer's here ...
Thing is (You've to agree Fran at this point I think ) ,that almost all of the DIY lights ,
of everyone here ,haven't left their owners disappointed ....
Even WallMart lamps can grow ..
Not as efficient as other more expensive &/or complicated DIY leds ,
but still they have the ability to grow...
And they 're available ,everywhere ,to anybody ..

Still, branded led lights carry all the right characteristics and certifications ,efficiency, guarantee and safety
to be used as a consumer led grow light .Nothing else.

And yes..
Fran's right...
'Lists' better to be avoided ....
:peace:

Cheers ..

What's the best supplemental lighting for a pure hps room that already reaches 80-85? am I at my limit until I decide to get the environment a bit more under control?

the 85 is only when lights are on full blast(4 T8's at one end of the room because those last HPS don't reach back there), CO2 pumping, and lower humidity.

Would adding a wet towel over my little vortex fan on the floor help my humidity out a bit without causing problems?

I would suggest this CFL fixture to supplement your HPS..
Get all the missing blue light you need ....
AND both aid to
get the environment a bit under control...

-fridge-with-open-door-isolated-on-white.jpg

Keep the side -wing reflectors open as wide as possible ,for the cool white light
(cool at spectra and at actual temps ,dude ! ).......
to be evenly irradiated .....

Protective caging ,can be removed !

Cheers ..
Good luck with the HPS....
LEDS thread here ....
Sticky as hell ...:fire:

Well if they're not top bins, maybe you (Pet) can find out for us, if they're lows or mids.. I'd like to know before spending any money on them, especially when everyone is telling me to get A51, and this Chinese panel is even working for me. You'd think top bin would be one of the secrets to their claimed amazing efficiency.

But more importantly, I've spilled red jalapeno hot sauce all over myself... guess this brand doesn't have a lid.

Why leave it up to me? Engage BML and ask, then let us know

You can tell them you asked me, but I passed the puck

you push bml like you are trying to get a commission....every one of your posts in every thread is about bml... even if it has nothing to do with the subject matter. There is zero proof of what these lights can do.. they are driven so soft .. so we'll see. after 2 or 3 harvests. then is when you talk about how good the light is, not after 1 week of veg...

Of course you are right about show me the results

Show me where I came out and said buy these they are much better than x, y, z...

All I have been doing is showing those who are looking for guidance (usually not the ones posting) that there is an alternative to those led panels often talked about, which also happens to be a high quality product, has passive cooling, and covers a bigger foot print

just get a few led bulbs or 23 watt cfl's
wet towel is not gonna help that much at all..

every post you make. Get the bml they worked wonders in your grow (after 3 days lol). You even said they are cheaper than a51 and apache me and genie corrected you on that. Take your finger off the repeat button. Go grow instead of pushing bml whites with 450 660 not what you wanted... Blah blah blah your not a dj...

You are way too heated over this, and exaggerating and/or taking out of context what I have said.

one SPYDR 600 is ~ same price as 2 A51s (less actually) covering essentially the same footprint

The simple solution here is, since you are well aware of my posts, simply pass over them

Don't let them upset your day

Peace

spyder covers the same as 2 a51 rw 75 -$250 each. 2 rw 150's will cover a 3x4 -4x4. 2 xgs 190 will cover a 3x6 to 4x6... No one pays listed price. You go $ per watt. The spyder is more and covers a smaller foot print. I doubt it will do well in 3x3. The led's are driven very soft. So probably need to be closer IE smaller plants only.... Sog.... I have 2 4 footers under a51 sgs 160 2.5 x3. 155w. Buds down below same size as tops. Only 2 weeks in 12/12 though

I'm not heated. Its gets old rolling my eyes at every post repeating what you chose for your bml's..

How well they are doing even though they are being used as supplemental

No proof there unless used alone..

. you haven't had them no where near long enough to even critique how well or not they work.

go buy an inda gro. Cheaper and less watts and covers a 4x4. Cheaper not counting pontoon and 10 year warranty what I just went there oooh . Ig is proven

OK, what is the title of THIS thread?

I have seen suggestions made here, then 2- posts later someone asking what to buy

Clearly they aren't reading, but we are

I can see for those of us who have a pretty good led understanding that my posts can get old, but no one says you have to keep reading them

What does running soft really mean? Plenty of crappy chinese soft running grow lights doing a pretty good job, so maybe 'soft' is not the be all you think it is. What they are known for is failure due to cheap parts

One thing is clear, spreading the diodes over a larger area provides a homogenous light source

You are making assumptions on a SPYDR won't do

Can we return to the purpose of this thread now? To help those asking what to buy

I agree with getting back to the topic. People probably are not reading because of all the back and forth arguing.

For those who do not what to read pet's posts, add him to your ignore list. I don't remember how to do that but it is possible so you do not see his posts anymore.

As I posted yesterday my method 7s came in. Anyone working in a red led environment I highly recommend you get eye protection. I never noticed my eyes feeling stressed while in the garden but after yesterday my eyes felt "relaxed" when I came out of the garden. They are a bit pricey but since it is hard in the eyes and I spent several hours in there the other day trimming it is worth it to me.

So i emailed Jeff over at A51 and he pretty much confirmed what i knew about 2 rw75 =1 rw150. But he also said a single rw75 would outperform my blackstar 135w by almost double. So i'm assuming that my 135w watt isn't really recommended for a 2x2 grow space even though that's what is listed on the sight. If the rw75 has a max coverage of 24"x24" but is recommended for 20"x20" what is the 135w recommended for as far as inches? I also had my eyes on the Mars 2 400 and Reflector 96x3 but they pull more wattage so that's what pushed me to the Hans-Panel 80w and A51. If i did go A51 i'd most likely just get the rw75 for the price point. Trying to stay around $300. Besides i could aways get another panel when i'm ready. Anybody care to compare pros and cons to these 4 panels other than the wattage they pull? Looking for the best overall (upfront cost, running cost, and most yield, etc) light for the $$$

If electricity were cheaper in California I'd take GG's advice and go HID, but I don't want crazy high bills, so I'm gonna try an LED setup this summer. Maybe if I had a commercial warehouse and power rate, tax write offs... but I don't.

So it's coming down to decision time. Jeff at A51 said that (16) RW150 would cover a whole 10x10. So if I could get away with 12, that's about a grand cheaper than the custom Cree COB rig. However, I'm kinda leaning towards the COB rig, mostly because I wanna be cool and have something custom. But also because the COBs are being designed to fit the layout I want, and the whole system is very well thought out.

The Apaches, while even more wattage and awesomeness, would be several grand more. Then again, I could just start with (3) AT600. Leaning towards the COB rig though, what do you think, gang?
