HELLO RIU!

as a proud parent of a blue bar ambilobe chameleon, i figured i would go ahead and try to make a thread for reptiles of all sorts?

I HAVE A DREAM, of a reptile recource & research thread.

Please feel free to add any piks, comments, stories of a lost one, anything of good knowledge.

i have had my guy for about 3 months now (from 7 months old) and was wondering how many other cultivators that are into this kinda thing too?

i dont have a camera but will have some piks up soon tho.

i want one. i heard they are hard to care for. is this true? something about their environment needing to be perfect. probably pretty similar to a grow room, i'd imagine.

YES! i had issues with my guy for a good 2 weeks about a month after i got him (goopey eye due to lights, too cold, darkening of skin) but after all that, its now good. they are very peticulair, they do DIRECTLY relate to a grow in a way, they need vitamins (3 kinds usually) like nutes, they go on 12-12 light schedule, 85 day 70 night temps, they NEED a 10-15 degree drop at night to insure a good night sleep, VERY alike a grow area, just keep the RH up to 60-70% is just the difference.

i'm just gonna keep an eye out for more pics of yours. ;)

sounds pretty involved. i don't think i'd be able to devote the time needed to properly care for one. kudos to you for getting him comfortable and happy. he looks great. :)

thanx faded, i appricate it. its been a struggle to get him back to himself. it does take alot of time to devote, daily sprayings, interaction so he dont get violent (hes got some damn teeth too, would HATE to see how sharpe they are) learning wat the damn colors mean (its his way of talking to you, the colors show emotion) were gunna start breeding these two in the months to come! ill let ya know how the clutch goes, mayb some time will open its self up?

We've got a red eared slider that we rescued as a baby from a local road...

red-eared_slider_102936_7.jpg

he's grown to about 2x his original size since we've taken him in, and seems to enjoy his new home for now. I've been wanting a lizard of some sort, but have been put off by it from an experience with a iguana that I couldnt keep alive as a kid, so for now I just enjoy my family of geckos that live outside my bathroom and hunt in the windows at night :)

I guess I was just a little too young for it and didnt know all of what they need in captivity..... it died before a month of having him.... Looks like I'm pretty good with the turtles though :)
