Your yield on a HLG550?

I sure hope so. Ive only been over gram per watt with single ended with 2 strains, blue dream and space queen. with DE I've done it every time. Im hoping those hlg 600's a gram per watt with a 24 day veg SOG style sort of.
Difficult to hit a gram or more per watt with SE HPS thats for sure. Hell..it was hard for me to hit 0.7 or more consistently in all honesty. For years. It actually got frustrating for the longest time. Because I would hear of claims and tall tales amd wondered why in the hell I couldnt hit those numbers. Little did I realize that 90% of it was bullshit. With me and the old school hps..everything had to be perfect at all times with fresh bulbs (or close to new bulbs)..definitely no glass and air cooled hoods. Definitely with co2 and perfect canopy/temps/rh lights on and off (sealed room).
I went with a bunch of double ended Gavitas a few years ago & I haven't looked back. Much more consistent and realistic to hit a gram or more per watt. Everything doesn't have to be as perfect. I mean..dont get me wrong..I still have to bring my A game but its not as critical and I can still be rest assured to hit weight. Its why Iam so skeptical (and always have been) about growers (especially newer growers) saying they hit big weight numbers with single ended. Then the kicker is (they always say too) they say "oh its easy". Lol.

Iam getting excited over the HLG550 personally. Pricey bit damn if the claims are true...straight up I would kill it. All that bud for damn near half the electric bill. Just gonna wait a little longer for prices and read up more on claims. Knowing my luck...I will wait until they lower price and there will be some new fandangled light that blows it out and even more efficiency.

Check out the HLG 600 kit. It's about $700 versus the HLG 550 @ $1000, and it's 110 watts more powerful.

if price is your factor just diy. you can buy boards and cobs cheaper than the preassembled units and expand/upgrade them later as well

nothing coming down the pipe will be "blowing anything away" though we'll gain a few percent later this year from the new boards and cobs.. but thats time you could be growing so like my favorite riu handle "getgrowingson"

curious, why kw/h? watt is already a unit of energy/time, unless the kw/h helps normalize the overall "grow time" for comparisons?
because 1000W for 12 weeks costs twice as much as 1000W for 6 weeks so you better be darn near doubling your yield over that time

I thought about it but Iam not into building led lamps. Nah. Not my cup of tea. I wanna grow dope not build frikin lights. What I need is some kick ass led's that lower my outrageous bill and still give me the quantity and quality that I get running 8 x Gavita Flex 6/750 double ended hps fixtures.

yeah 510 vs 620 was strange, i messaged hlg about that and they said they dropped the 550 to 510 but had the same output/results (i guess they changed other efficiencies).

i went diy with strips for tihs reason and boy did costs add up after realizing theres metal, wiring, drivers, tape, etc all to add on top.still cheaper but when doing 4000-5000w its soooo much work

Yeah. Fuk all that. Like I said..I wanna grow dope..not get lost in the world of building my own led grow lights. Got enough on my plate now. I will get on board soon though with the pre made ready to roll units. But its gonna be a doozy. Iam doing really well with my 8 Gavitas. But damn that electric bill. Lol

No, a Watt has nothing to do with time, it is only a unit of instantaneous energy. kW/h is watts over time - it's what you get charged for by the electric company. So grams per kW/h gives you actual electricity cost per gram of your grow.

what kind of cobs are they? how hard are you running the boards?
Just the shitty 3590's About 1.5 years old. Running the boards as hard as they will go I guess.
I have no meters, I know none of the math you guys speak of, I don't know how to read any of the graphs you guys study. Im just going to run off gardening experience I guess. Hopefully turns out well.

nothing shitty about the 3590s

if you want to match efficiency of the cobs to about the same level as the boards run the boards at 150W each and the cobs at 35-45W each/1050-1300 mA

you can get a free luxmeter app for your phone which is good enough to balance the light spread

actually watt is a unit of joule / second, so its energy / time, which is also instantaneous energy, but the electric company charges you on kWh - 1000 Watts * hours, which gives you kiloJoules which is energy.

Thus, do you mean Grams/kWh or Grams/(kW/h)? Im guessing its the former (total gram yield / total energy given to plant)

Thanks!
