Your thoughts on germinating beans

Been 48 hours since... 24 hours in a cup of water, 24 hours since I planted the seeds in soil. All I'm doing is using a spray bottle to mist and keep the top soil damp when ever it appears to start to dry out. I don't want it to be too wet or soggy, but still damp...

Like I said, consistently, everything I soak for 12-24 hours and then plant directly into soil sprouts in about 3 days altogether... I didn't have to scuff it or do a whole bunch of extra steps with the paper towel stuff... Just soak in water until it stops floating and sinks then plant it in soil and keep warm and moist...

For many years I used the paper towel method. It works well.
I decided to simplify my germination process after reading this:

I am not convinced that the soaking or paper towel method is as bad as the above link asserts, however skipping this step saves me loads of time and tedious tweezers work with paper towel or water soaked seeds that have popped. It can be stressful to have to place each popped seed into the soil without damaging the tiny tap root.
So now I simply place the seeds into the soil, and the germ rate for me has been the same as the more laborious towel or water method.
Saves me lots of time. No more tweezers!!!
I also scuff my seeds with an emery board if the seeds are a little older.

If the seeds are popping while soaking it, then they have been in the water for way too long. To me soaking it for 12 hours speeds up the process safely as it's very rare that seeds would open up that quickly; however, I agree that it's not necessary.
