Vegging Light Cycle Choice

Plants can only absorb a certain amount of light each day. I'd say however many light hours that takes that is what I would run. I do 18/6 personally and believe plants need some dark time. Ymmv.

I do 12/12 gas lantern from seed in veg. They won't grow faster with more light. It's always a balance act of what stage of growth you're in and what the plants are able to tolerate.

I've only seen positive changes going from 18/6 and will never go back!

Cheers!

I do 4 to 7 hours of darkness depending on the dimming options/minimum distance of light.

Its always about DLI (daily light intake) which I don't compromise, ever. Meeting the climate standards for it (temp/humidity - VPD)

For seedlings 24/0, DLI <15.
For vegetative state 20/4 - 17/7, DLI 20-40.
For flowering 12/12, DLI 25-40, up to 65 with co2.

For me I run an 18/6 schedule and get over a pound from each auto I grow , for 3 plants I get close to 4 lbs. Every 3-4 months.
I've talked local business growers in my area and they all run an 18/6 for autos and for veg in photos (12/12 for flower). None of them use a 24 light for the same reason stated earlier.....every living thing needs a time to rest or suffer consequences from not having it.

Last two runs doing GLR this one is less fat and might yield less, Idk till I harvest it. Its growing reveg like and the colas arent doing what I intended them to do. The last run they were ok but now they didnt stretch much and fatten up as much with lolipop. The veg clones right before flip werent growing to my favor. Reveg like.

Theyll stretch out here and there its weird. Maybe this has helped them finish faster going to 9/15 lighting but it could also be that I got rid of bugs, gnats and aphids. Had root rot likely as a result which I dont have anymore. Idk ablut GLR..

Probably something else going on. I've had the same stretch in veg doing GLR and even flowering under 10/14.

I see stouter growth and more shoots forming early in veg with GLR and that's only a positive. I've had no problems filling out switching from 12/12 GLR to 10/14 or 8/16 like I ran last run.

Yields and development is on point and what you would expect with 7 weeks done in flower. Slightly faster turnover. I've probably saved 1.5 weeks on total flowering time.

At flip 36 days veg, 12/12 GLR from sprout.

Crammed tent after 7 weeks of flower.

Cheers!

They did switch faster like day 9 looked like the 2.5 week mark. I feel like that messed with the structure and should of left more thin colas on like you would reveg. Because the colas are nice and small dont got to worry about budrot just PM. So I may of shorted myself an oz or two this run in that tent. Not all of them did this so Im on the fence.

From sprout if you mean seed I noticed hella vigor in this new pheno vs my almost 2 yr old pheno. That was cloned over and over. It may have some loss of vigor already. When vegging it was alright and then before flip it compacted alot and had calyxes every node and less tipped leafs. I have another veg tent on 24/0 I could do a side by side.

I find that I harvest a good bit earlier, these Wedding cakes were ready on 60 days of flower

If u have a led and semi high ppfd for veg easily (400-600 ppfd max) 16/8 or 17/7 np, dli and plants in nature def don’t have 18 hours of 400-500 ppfd and if they do it’s not “required”l I suggest save yourself the 30-60+hr’s per month in savings and same power per hour used. I’ve ran even before led’s 17on/7off for over a decade vs the 18/6-24hr on and my plants def worked out if not better aka better root structure and plants don’t need all that extra ppfd per day.

So I lost about 3oz out of a usually 7 oz plant. Im tellin ya the fast flip messed it up. Just the way it flowered wasnt usual. Could be cool temps and fabric pots taking longer to root out vs plastic pots to match the upper growth. So it seemed ready but needed more time due to upper growth out pacing the root growth?

Two same size tents two clones each one tent was 7oz clones the other was 4.5oz and 5.5oz. Same treatment from cuts to harvest. They have been finishing faster but at what cost. I already wanted to and executed my idea to wait longer to take cuts so they can grow longer if needed.

Had height of fat nugged colas and fat satelites filled more space. This run short colas reveg like not good for lollipop and thinning just less bud trying to make the same structure this run.
