Plants can be perfectly happy in many shades of green, without needing nitrogen. But so long as there are a few nodes it's hard to hurt them with a little bit. Whenever I'm on the fence about it I just use a tiny amount of nutes, too little to hurt em, and can always follow up with more next watering if it seems to respond positively or want more.

I like the general hydroponics "coolaid"
When trying to keep it simple they are easy and cheap. I pretty much only use the micro at this point then move into other nutrients as the plant ages. Sometimes organic or other brand of Chem.

I've found starting the plants on a few drops per gallon not even changing the color of the water and just increasing it every other watering till it's pinkish red is foolproof for me. Then again I've prolly added the nutes to water 1000 times so eyeballing is all I've done in years..

Lol @ calling it "Coolaid". I'm not using hydro though. I'm running with a cooked up soil. Same stuff as last time. Except I've got a better idea on how things run. And the soil has cooked for a lot longer this time round.

I'm eventually looking at running Strain Hunters: Caboose & White Lemon strains. But, that's only after having gotten myself at least a taller box to grow in. And a proper extraction fan & scrubber. I'm also looking at eventually adding in another ~200w of COBs from cutter. Want to set them up with two drivers. One per channel. That way I can set the outputs as needed. Especially during summer months.

Ah okay. Well I'm not near any hydroponic stores. Nor am I in a legal country. I'm running an organic base for my grow. Basically, whatever I can get from the compost runoff. Plus a few other methods of obtaining nutrients from natural sources.

I'm even trying my soil and compost runoff on standard veggies. To see how well they grow with it.

I understand, gotta get by as you can. Can you order from amazon.com or ebay? I guess I don't really know how it goes places outside the usa.

I probably could. But, I'm not all that keen to go online for things like hydro specific nutrients and the like.

Though. I will have to suck it up if I want my extractor and scrubber.

Still undecided on the next growing box too. It could be anything. A wardrobe. An old fridge. An actual grow tent. Who even knows?

I'm yet to find a tent where I not only like the price, but also has good reviews. And fits within a 70cm square base. And being no taller than 2m. Hence the consideration of other containers.

Many of the shippers on amazon and eBay should be safe to use, and the ones I've used always come in standard plain boxes. I wouldn't stress it. Plus that's part of the actual reason to use general hydroponics coolant, they been around since the 70s or something and it's just regular nutrients that are common.
I generally use organics myself, especially in flower. I like bat guanos and bone meal a lot. But for veg I like an immediate nitrogen source that will flush easy and act fast and that's not really what organic is. With organics the more water you add the more nutrients it releases, in many cases.

It's also nice to have houseplants as a cover, African violets and orchids are common and like to use professional hydroponic nutrients in soil.

My cover is the poorly maintained veggie garden. Don't know what I'm going to do when the two outdoor ones are bigger though. Especially the Sativa looking thing.

I've got another question fam. I want to mainline again. But, I don't want another soda can sized bonsai. I'm looking to get at least 8 main heads this time. 16 if I can fit it.

This one is at about the 8th node. And just a tad shorter than my last run at roughly 10cm tall (nearly 1month old). Versus last runs 15cm at harvest (3-4 months old).

If I start topping now. Will it stay about this height. Or should I let it grow a couple more nodes, then top it?

I'm still not savvy on when exactly to make the first cut. I just know. I want to do better this time round.

*Also. I believe I gave the wrong numbers for yield weight on last run. It wasn't 50g. It was more like 15g at most when dried. As I managed to fill more than two little baggies. Even the larfy took up half a tiny baggie by itself. The buddage was quite dense. Apologies for the bullshit. I don't own scales. I just eyeball things.*

Derrp. I forgot to add the side view image to show nodes. I'm thinking it's about ready for the first top. But, like I said. I don't want another tiny bonsai. I want something bigger this time. With more weight packed on.

So, yeah. Any tips on achieving that. Without resorting to synthetic nutrients. Much appreciated.

Thanks fam.20170123_092217.jpg

I think it's a Shiva Shanti 1. Should I begin topping it now. Or let it get a little taller? I want to finish with at least 8 heads this time round.

Cheers folks. Sorry to disturb.
Hey man. Thought I would throw in my two cents here right quick. I have read that some folks have had success even with topping after it develops a solid two nodes after the cotyledons. That is at the very earliest. In my experience with various other plants the key is plant health and vigor. From my standpoint she is looking just dandy so go ahead and nip her.:hump:

Chime in if I'm completely off on this folks. Or tell me I'm right. I'm not opposed to that either.

I'm only asking because I don't want it either too tall. Or to be stuck at bonsai height like the last one.

But thanks man. I appreciate the input.

Whats up okay first off pinch them water leaves off, you got 6 nodes and a fim option. I think you need more nutrients in the pot for her. Make up a compost smoothie in an old blender or chopper and cook it to reduce it low heat for an hour, then dilute it to 4 to 1 to start with, should help feed until you get some nutrients in. a Tablespoon of Epsom salts to a 3 gallon pot will help with mag deficiencies, they also like pineapple juice and apple juice for sugars but only in moderation and diluted 2 to 1, diluted piss is a great fertilizer too. Now back to the question at hand, if it were my grow i would circle train it now without topping it at all. You would easily get the colas you want but you keep the stem managed and you get all the room to grow big colas cause each node will act as a cola and grow for the sky. If you still want to top I would wait for a little more growth so your not stunting it at all, some like to slow down to recover. Others like my Skunk Wrecked Widows never stops so I dont worry about that, there 4 weeks in and I have moved the light twice, time to top them all LOL. who needs Pokemon we got cannabis Got To Top Them All ROFLOL, sorry im having fun today! Uhhhh. I kinda did the top already... I'm shite at waiting for responses. Same with organisation. That's shite too.

And what's a water leaf? Is that the big fans?

You gotta keep the terminology simple moondance. I'm not fully up to speed with the jargon just yet.

So. I've topped it. Is the circle method out. Or should I just keep topping like I did last time?

I often don`t bother topping anymore I just spray or feed with triacontanol and seaweed in veg if I want more tops, sometimes I spray my seedlings too slows them down for a week or 3 but they bush like fuck

indole and GA3 to get them tall then I use triacontanol to make them fat

I only remove branches now when I`m taking clones or if I want to mainline

The correct way to top is before node 4/8 depends on the strain if you top after the plant sexes then in some ways you have not topped really..... like if I want a clone that`ll make amazing buds I take a cutting from the top of the plant... branches lower down seem to root faster but they don`t make "top bud" I mean its some what genetic but still

we once had a top get cut off a plant by a falling light....... that plant made shitty bud was a random big bud from ebay....... but the clone we took off the top that was cut off ?? That made amazing buds better smell and taste and way better high than the bottom of the plant made

So topping in my view is to get more branches that produce "top bud"....... getting a load of lower branches to grow high is not the same as getting "tops" a lot of plants seem to need the branches to be near the top for very young this is why I say to top a plant before it sexes as what grows on the top of them branches makes the "top bud"

So I would say the younger the better as long as you don`t shock or kill it

From node 2 you can top but best to do it between node 3 and 8, in my opinion...... but like I said I would just use a seaweed or gerberrilic inhibitor to top the plant.... LSD does not need to involve touching the plants it can be done with chemicals, food and lighting same as HST can also be done without cutting or snapping a plant..... people forget that people also forget PH and what they feed can have a huge effect on the plants structure
