Yield amounts on seeds

I was wondering when a yield amount says something like 500-600 gr/m is the meter dependent on a specific number of plants within the 3ft or is that what they are saying could be obtained if you vegged to the point of a meter? I did try to do a search before asking my question. Thank you for any help
