Yet Another Closet Grow

Hi guys.
I'm in the process of building my mmj grow box inside a closet.

Closet Dimension = 2' x 7' x 8'

So far I have,

1 x 1000w HPS (need reflector)

1 x Lightrail Light Mover 3.5, with rail.

1 x Roof Elastomeric Reflective paint. (95% reflective)

Picking up,

1 x Vortex 6" Blower

1 x 6" Cool Tube or Air Cooled Reflector

1 x CAN 50/ 38 Special CF.

Ghetto Layout, :joint:

Progress,

I was hoping to get some experienced builders' feedback and suggestions to complete this project.

Cheers!

make sure your reflector is air tight (or as close as possible). other wise you will lose air pressure with your fan on that side. other than that..it's a pretty solid set up. a side note, fyi, if you use insulated ducting, and also just drape a piece of insulation on top of the reflector, it will significantly reduce the heat factor in addition to using the exhaust system.

Thanks for the suggestion, that's exactly the kind of input I need.
I will be sure to purchase some extra insulation for the reflector.

Do you think the position of the blower and carbon filter should be switched to have
less bends on the duct? Or leave carbon filter on top to suck out the heat?

Also if the reflector needs to be air tight, would the Cool Tube be a better reflector than the Sun System 2 6"?

Thanks.

if trying to achieve a flat 2' wide canopy the length of your light rail, the sun system 2 is better.

Thanks Landragon. I actually like the sun system 2 better, but is the sun system as air tight as the cool tube? Picking up the blower and reflector tomorrow, hope to make the right decision before then.

Thanks again.

I've got a space that big, but with a 400watt MH/HPS - do you think a 6" vortex is really needed? That fan pushes over 430CFM - the 4" vortex pushes 172" - would it not be sufficient?

I'd like answers with regards to his system (1000watt) and my own (400watt).

Thanks for the help guys!

A nice local hydro shop owner gave me some advice on lighting options,
also the pros and cons. He suggest I run 2x 600 w/ traditional magnet ballasts. He was kind enough to give me an article from Maximum Yield USA I will post it to share with you guys.

So some pros and cons:

1x 1000w Digital Ballast w/ Light Mover

PROS
- Bigger dense colas
- Less Cost on parts + bills
- Lighter/quieter/less watts Digi Ballasts

CONS
- Light coverage depended on Light Mover
- Runs 20,000+ hertz (red flags in some areas)
- Reduced lamp life
- Not UL/CSA listed

2x 600w Traditional Magnet Ballasts

PROS
- Better light coverage
- Runs 60 hertz like household electronics in US/CAN
- 2x lights redundancy/does not rely on light mover

CONS
- More $ for parts/bills
- Heat issue with 2x 600w ?
- light penetration

Hope I got that right, feel free to jump in anytime.
So what do you think? 1000w = bigger dense nugs compared to 2x 600w?
I'm going for quality not quantity, personal med only but also enjoy as a hobby. Also as far as heat, do you think a 1000w will generate more heat than 2 600w?

Really appreciate it if you guys could shine some lights on my concern.

Johnny, personally I think with a single 400w a 4" vortex would do.
My friend has a 400w setup with a same closet size and he is pretty happy with it. He has to run the 4" vortex on high to keep the temp down in the summer so it's a little loud even with insulated ducting.

Love your setup, looks real clean. I put like 3 coats of Exterior flat white pain inside my cabinet. Been letting it air out for days because of paint smell. Bonus is that I am able to wipe the walls with soap and water without fading.
