I had this problem for 2 consecutive grows. Each time I could not figure out what the hell was going on.
Was it my tap water?
Was it my soil?
Was it my nutrients?
Was it a PH imbalance?
I tested everything constantly. Tap water appeared to be fine PH-wise, same with nutrients. So what the hell?
Well, I finally figured out what my problem was...
I let the plants sit in the run off. BIG MISTAKE!
I had 25 plants going in a grow tent and figured the run off would just evaporate but in retrospect I believe I was wrong. I now believe that the plants were just soaking the run-off water back into the pots thus created a super acidic and salt filled soil, particularly at the bottom of the pot. This is probably why soil samples from the top of the pot showed a decent PH, whereas runoff showed a really bad PH.
Going forward I'm going to purchase a hydroponic table to let the pots sit in approx 2 feet off the floor. I'll use a drainage hole in the hydro table to get rid of the run-off and hopefully this will resolve the issue going forward.
I wanted to share this information because I always posted my problems and never got any answers that fit the problem. So folks, if you're experiencing the same issue and letting your plants sit in the run-off well, that is likely your problem.
