Ok,this is my set-up..I have a seedling that just sprouted!I put it in a small personal cooler, and hung a single 30W CFL over it,its a brand new bulb, and lights up the tiny bugger pretty good!!I placed this cooler under the table in my living room, shielded by some boxes to keep the room from glowing at night(I leave the blinds open)....pretty ghetto I konw, but I dont have any decent place 2 put it!Ima leave the seedling under light for 24hours...and eventually use both the sun and cfls to veg it...for now,Im spraying the cup lightly with water...

I checked the temps, and it read 84degrees F..is this too hot for a seedling? The light is like an inch or two away from the seedling..the plant hasnt even opened it cotyledons...its just broke the surface a bit,is the temps and lighting too extreme for a seedling??Please help,I dont wanna crisp it up,it hasnt even grown lol...

Any tips for seedlings?Any comment on my set-up??Also,when is a seedling to young to place in the hot Fl sun??When can I start hardening it off???:-|:hump:

It will do fine for now, with the single light, as long as it is only about an inch or two away.

However, once it starts to grow bigger, I would HIGHLY suggest some more cfl's.

I could give further advice if you supplied some pic's of how everything looks.

Oh, didn't read very thoroughly... that may end up being a tad too hot for the little thing, I'd suggest a little fan, for stem strength, if not for cooling and ventilation.

Computer fans work, but I use the little 3" fans at Wal-Mart.

Ok..now I have two seedlings...theyr still very small,in small styrofoam cups full of a mix of perlite, coir, and top soil. The only thing Im doing is misting the surface with water and peroxide..no feeding or anything. The cups are in a medium sized beach cooler, and I placed two CFL,s over them..one pointing at each cup..but the lights are spread evenly..Any comments? Will it get too hot if I cover the cooler halfway with the top? Also, should I get a fan and point it at the inside of the cooler??

I hope to put some pics up soon, but I would really apreciate some comments and input man!!

crazy. it would be good to have about 3 weeks inside but you can put that little girl out any time put under shade tree and graduly move to sun little sun at times and increase every time watch out for high winds and rain when it is so small ..back off on water it wont use much, one good watering is better than 5 small ones.. that fl. sun i not two familiar with you should have half dozen when you are learning in case 1 or 2 does die and you are going to have males ...the best lesson are from your mistakes .... when the first true set of leaves come out start using a very diluted fert..good luck. weezer

Do you recommend I use the sun to veg instead of the cfls?Like, every morning,Ill just move the tiny seedlings outside, and when it gets dark, just bring inside under cfls..Will they grow faster like this, considering they will be vegging for half the day under the hot,fl sun??Also,is a single 30W CFL good enoguh for a single seedling?Ima have an extra 23W CFL by the two seedlings though...everything sounds good?

Also, how long should they take to start growin.like the first leaves to appaer?1 week,2 weeks??

if you put them out side leave them out ..not in and out ...put them in shade and each time longer in sun ,best in cloudy day it takes about 7to 10 days to harden them off..first leaves should be out arond week one

How important is it to harden them off..I moved the seedlings to the sun,and Ima leave em there for a couple hours, then move to the shade..I will do this for a couple days, and I have them inside and out cus I really need them to grow fast, plus I cant leave them outside once they gert bigger, and by then Ill be interupting their light cycles...

vey important to harded them off, they will get sun burn. you should pick inside or out you will stress plant .. it will end up growing less instead of more...
