Xoshua's 2.0 CFL-Blackstar240LED

I had a forum topic posted before the server wiped. So a brief history. First grow log was on here, I didn't end up with anything, messed up the nutrients, pH, size, and some other errors. This time around I was more prepared. Instead of HPS/MH I'm going with the 2012 Blackstar 240 LED. This forum is anti- led so I'm here to shine some light for the LED population.

Veg Lights: 10 x 6500k (32 actual watt); 2 x 2700k (28 actual watts)
Flower Lights: Blackstar 240 LED flower, 2012.

Nutrients: Nutrient+ grow a&b (veg); Nutrient+ bloom a&b (flower)

Soil: Bought some professional soil this time from a nursery. Has perfect pH with limestone and other minerals. I had it posted here somewhere. I believe it's Pro-mix BX: Mych.

Intake: 4'' Axale Fan (Basically a PC fan on sterioids).
Exhaust: 2 x 4" pc fans but I have a 4" inline fan that I'm waiting to install. It sounds like a jet engine!

Electrical: The fans and lights plug into a 4/5 star electrical power bar/ strip. The power strip connects to medium duty extension cord. Extension cord connects to heavy duty timer.

Current strains: Originally I had 6 plants. Recently I discovered 2 males and removed them. Now I'm playing tetris with the plants to get them to fit perfectly with the extra space. I have 2/4 Northern Lights and the other 2 are random bagseed but I suspect one of them to be white widow/ white rhino/ white something because it looks frosty on one of them.

I wanted to note I will be adding some calmagic (Calcium Magnesium for roots, burnt tips and LED lights need this)********

So feel free to comments and such. I have anxiety so I will be growing "Strawberry Cough" and "Jack Herrer" next cycle for a daytime and night variety. I'm pretty pumped up though!

Time: The two bigger ones are two weeks older. They were planted by seeds end of January/ start at February. Vegg'ed them for a months and a week/two.

Sorry for so much info, let me know if you have any more questions and such.

Not to be paranoid but within the first hour this topic was posted it showed 150 views on this topic. Not one reply and only a few checked the pics, what's up with that? Heh.

Cool, the stems are nice and thick! Are they in bags or smart pots, what size? Never heard of those nutrients, they seem to be working for you

Yay a post! Welcome! Heh, they are in 1.5 gallon grow bags. I bought 3 gallon bags too but I don't think they would fit now.

Have you tried smoking hash for your anxiety? Personally, I find that hashish eases my anxiety way better than weed does. Not sure if that's true for everyone...

Starting my own DWC\LED grow as soon as my supplies arrive. Everything I grow will be turned into medicinal hash and oil...

Very good to hear! I've might of tried hash once but I don't recall the feeling. I've heard of using hash for anxiety as well, maybe the remains ill try making some and let you know. I was reviewing the strain effects and for anxiety, but ill keep looking than. I wanted to keep it 2- 3 strains at one time so all the plants are somewhat equal or managable to train. Any suggestions or comments, feel free to post.

Thank you! Its going nice, but the tallest girls are literally touching the LED panel. They seem to be enjoying it though. Will this be alright? Any other suggestions?

My calmagic arrived. Added calmag and flower nutes, well see how she takes it. I need more space above, I'm going to try to raise the chains. Comments and feedback appriciated.

Temp is around 73 by plugs. It's pretty cool in here. Calmagic seems to be helping. I took some small leaves and branches (no bud sites) near the bottom.

I took some pictures without LED to see the normal view. I'll post more normal colour pictures too. I don't like seeing a growlogs with only LED light, it makes it look boring..

Anyways, let me know what you think. Anything I should do to improve? Anything?

You're doing good Xoshua :)
Nice job lollipopping your plants, it will increase your yield for sure.
The only thing I would recommend is to do some trimming at the top of the canopy.
Pull off some fan leaves to help let the light penetrate further down.
Don't go overboard, but pull a few leaves from the top of each plant and see how well it works.
Good luck.

I took some fan leaves off that were blocking other shoots. I also lolipopped a little bit off the other plant. My question, will this be alright I took some fan leaves off? And I've never folaige fed these girls. Should I start spraying the leaves with nutes and calmagic or just the soil?

Fan leaves are perfectly fine to take off as long as you don't take to many off, it does work to get light deeper

Do not foliage feed your plants during flowering!!!
Never spray anything on your buds while their developing, it promotes powdery mildew and other molds.
Not to mention that whatever chemical you put on them during the budding stage will more then likely contaminate your buds permanently, meaning that you'll end up smoking it.
Some folks say they can pull this style of growing off, but I've never seen it work in person, as it always comes back to bite them with high mildew and mold outbreak rates in the end.

Taking some leafs off is fine, the plants will end up looking healthier in a day or two as a result.
Good luck.

I think you are overcrowding. I am a noob as well and I am about to chop in a few days with my blackstar grow. I have noticed that everything below my canopy is popcorn bud. You are really only going to get tops so make sure you have a lot of them and push down any fan leaves that are in the way. I am also not sure if this is a good Idea but I have been told i should have cut all the branching on my lower budsites so that the energy could have gone to the more important sites. Just food for thought.

Thatsmessedup thank you for posting! :) yes "lollipopping" helps use the plants energy more efficient compared to letting her grow. You need to be very careful not to take too many leaves off at once and to only remove the lower leaves. I read up on it but I'm going slow this time. Last grow I learnt too many tricks and attempted them all at once which resulted to poor yield and hermies. I agree, its pretty bushy but on the plus size, its healthy. There's a lot I wish I knew my first time around but trial and error. I'm a bit high at the moment but yea, wish I had more room. I'm trying to figure out the best space optomization but still learning. If my cab was shorter in height and wider I would sea of green it. With a taller skinny model, I'm having a hard time figuring out the best option. Suggestions are always welcome. Sorry this is a wall of text but this device doesn't paragraph properly.

Some more pics from today. This is the issue I was having. There two colas from two different plants touching the LED now. It's in flower or I would of LST it. What should I do?

Also, the smaller girl is the youngest. The inline fan was blowing on her a bit throughout her growth, shes small compared to the others. I tried raising her by placing empty bottles to level and raise her. I've been using my bloom formula plus this calmagic. It seems to be improving growth and I don't see any burnt tips anymore. I just wish I could have less leaves and more bud sites filling up my space. I was almost tempted to add some 2700k CFL's near the bottom lol. Anyways, send your suggestions and feedback please. I'm always welcome to knowledge. :)

Okay before I go, take a look at the frost most of the bud sites are growing. It looks delicious.
