The batteries in my ph meter were shot, ph started reading way high.
Lesson learned...calibrate more, check batteries yearly.

pH paper has intrinsic buffering power and will work badly with solutions as dilute as hydro feed. Never mind its poor resolution; it'll read wrong.

I thought that as well but then realized that those batteries are alkaline and would raise the pH instead of lower it.
