This is exactly why more people need to grow out entire packs, most of what i found was okay with about 3-4 outstanding plants in about 8 years and close to 50 strains. Lose your perception of the fact that you were the grower and it doesnt seem special at all. Like people we are mostly bland with a lot of common traits and more negative definitive features than positive, then every 1 in 1000000 you get a perfect example of a human being.

Sorry bro, but you lost all credibility with me when you said you have been around for awhile and then you went out and purposefully bought Cannabis cup winning strains...

Even the most raw newbs know that is a joke. If you are basing good strains off of what the most corrupt contests in the world tells you, then you have not done any research at all.

Why they are Cannabis Cup winner High Times says they are the best,,, hell HT's does big articles on these guy how they really want to do it right and would never breed substandard plants ect ect....
Because HT's seems to go for the "Fast Food" of breeders. Hell if I were going for breeders stock the only breeder i'd be going to right now would be Rare Dankness. Those fuckers are on fire!! Look up the Ghost Train Haze #1 seems to make the kids get excited

Night Terror OG looks hot too

Anyways, I have run most breeders gear. I am running TGA for the first time as we speak. I will say, as of now, BB and Bomb ceeds are at the VERY TOP of my list!

The GTH is carried locally in the store and its a great smoke. Very sativa plant though and will streeetch.
I bought a 10 pack of RD blue ox, received 12 seeds, 100% germ ratio and 7 females. I bought them for a male breeding stock so it looks like I get my choice of females as well. You can buy RD seeds at some of the stores here in Colorado.

Sorry Bro I should have made it clear all these I bought were for breeding stock so none of them are mine. I do run my own strain but as a breeder I'm always looking for a keeper and I just didn't find it outta a 35 different strain run to me that speak volumes about where this industry is.... Of what I consider to be top of the strain I kept G13 Labs Pinapple express, Sensi Star, Delicious seeds Critical Sensi Star and Humbolt seeds Org train wreck.
only two keepers ive found in 11 were critical ss and og13 from g13

I dunno if it can be taken that far. I mean, maybe its true that some money and promotion and even some glad-handing "influence" the vote when it comes to cup winners. Maybe there are better strains out there and I'm sure there are. Eddie Van Halen isn't the greatest guitar player in the world. The greatest guitar player in the world is probably some kid hiding out in his bedroom that nobody knows.
Despite all of this I'm sure one could make a far worse choice by selecting a cannabis cup winner when looking for strains. It surely isn't going to flat out suck. If it has a trophy under it at a gathering of a lot of strains, I'm sure you can do a lot worse, and for those that may not have a lot of time to study everything under the moon, I'm sure its a perfectly rational place to start. The average Joe Grower wouldnt have all the first hand exposure to a lot of different strains like a judge walking around a competition would.

Well its common knowledge that only the big advertisers in HT win...I mean thats fact, but that also happen in other industries however they try to get better when in the weed business they just fuking don't give a shit. I'm mean I grew 10 headband that were the sorriest examples of cannabis I have EVER seen hang your fukin head DNA...of and that Kosher kush 10 of those no good not one. and the list goes on

WTF man. I spend my hard earned cash on top of the line cannbis cup winning strain and 90 percent of the time I get shit and I mean shit.
And another one bites the dust and falls for the bullshit. A Cannabis Cup "winner" doesn't mean shit. In this shady biz it might have been the judges were bought off. I know of one BIG seedbank who did just that. Having the title of Cannabis Cup "winner" means mega bucks for these seed chuckers because they know it draws in the suckers by the truckload. Bag weed is not only economical but may be the best weed you've ever grown. But folks buy on the hype and label, and if that "cross" has a name, well shit, it's gotta be the bomb!

Also, are you a seasoned gardener, one that has been growing all kinds of plant material for years? IOW, do you know what you're doing?

Not by design but more pure luck I've been growing from breeders that seem to be under the radar. Kannabia Seeds is a Spanish breeder that I've grown to love lately. The "Mataro Blue" grow linked in my signature just finished up and I have nothing but praise for their products.

I also just received seeds from a friend in Colorado of strains un-known here on the east coast, and from what I've read, I'm in for a treat.

On the flip-side, I was unimpressed with two strains that were so-called "cup winners" that I've grown. They were between ok and good.....but nothing special.

You simply could not be more wrong. Sorry bro, you cannot possibly be more wrong....

Explain Tangerine Dream.... Cannabis Cup winner that flat out sucks, everyone who grows it says the same thing...
So yeah, don't spread misinformation...

You would be closer to the truth to say "Never buy cannabis cup winning strains".

Not to mention their attitude STINKS. As bad as subcools. And at that point, no matter the gear, i do not wish to do business or support people like that.

Man, I hope BB never wins the Cannabis Cup. If they do, all their strains will turn to shit.

Meh, I never expect 'Dances with the Stars' winners to be best in the world. Nor did I ever believe Lance Armstrong was the fastest bicylclist in the world. I'm surprised at the level of disillusion here.

International competitions are about working the system, not being the best (which would be nigh on impossible to determine anyway). With cannabis, this is complicated by the prevelence of polyhybrids, which have a wide range of trait expression among phenos. One bud may be killer, but most phenos may be crap. The OP was primarily having issues with Critical Kali. It's a poly... and he's using it for breeding stock (?) in a non-commercial sized grow. Huge variation would be expected.

Sorry Bro I should have made it clear all these I bought were for breeding stock so none of them are mine. Oh, and a few of these 'top strains' are produced by Cannabis Cup winners.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but I didn't see any pics. Are you sure it's the strain? Not trying to offend anybody (I know we all tale pride in our growing swagger) but I'm on my second grow, have only popped 3 strains (other than bag seed) and the difference between them and the bag seed is UNBELIEVABLE. With one exception, I grew a seed from a dime of Mexican shwag that wound up yielding ten ounces, and was a sativa pheno. The potency wasn't the best, but I was greatful for the yield.

But yeah, I've grown white widow from g-13 labs and bubba kush from hso on my first run; the white widow was so-so but the bubba kush was AMAZING. Super frosty, super powerful couch lock stone. I'm growing out an OG kush from hso in my second run, and the results speak for themselves.

If I were you I would try switching some things up. You seem to have a good knowledge base (again, only read the first post but you said youve been growing a while). Maybe I've just been lucky, but I can't imagine going through 35 paid seeds and only catching 4 that were worth a shit.
