mmkay. I scarfed a 400 watt Hydrofarm grow system with a conversion bulb. The Reflective hood says it can hold up to a 1000 watt bulb. So i wanted to kick up my flowering a notch and bouht a top of the line Hortilux 1000 watt HPS. I screwed the bulb in, fired up the ballast... and nothing. I would assume that i have an the wrong ballast, but i want to check and make sure. The ballast says:

"Relamp with 400 watt MH M59 type lamp" (it doesnt say only 400 watt...)
"for use only with RD, SG, Pro, GL, GLX series luminers"
ballast runs @ 120V 5A

The HPS i want to use says " use only with ballast for ANSI S52 lamps"

anyone know if i need a new ballast, because that would suck. If so, how much would the proper one cost me. Thanks for your help! :joint:

lol thats funny. The reflector says 1000 watt because some reflector are to small to fit the bulb in thier lol each ballast is made for 1 specifi watt bulb. A 400 watt ballast will run a 4oo watt bulb only wattage is not interchangable..Thanks for the laugh though they was priceless. If you want a 1000 watt hps bulb you need a 1000 watt hps ballast or a conversion bulb for what eve 1000 watt light you want. ballasts fire only the watt bulb they are made for no going up or down watts

excactly what filthyfletch said and do not plug in a 400 watt bulb into a 1000 watt ballast you could explode the bulb from what i hear...1000 watt mh ballast for a 1000 watt mh bulb a 400 watt mh ballast for a 400 watt mh bulb
