Would you be comfortable running this space heater all winter long?

There is no other heat source in my room, and during the winter the temps seems to range from 58f - 65f. It's starting to look like things can operate in this temp range, but I'm also noticing that the cold is having some unwanted consequences as well.

So, there is this oil filled space heater: http://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-TRD0715T-Safeheat-Portable-Oil-Filled/dp/B000A33B1C

If I were to get this thing (or something like it), it would only make sense to do so if I were to run it round the clock, all winter long. However, I have no experience with this sort of thing, and the thought of having it going while I'm sleeping or not home makes me nervous.

Does anybody know how safe these things are? Can you safely run them all the time for months?

yup, I have use one like it. Mine had the digital LED timer and temp gauge. thing worked great, turned on when lights went out and off when they came on (also temp regulated on/off). never had a problem with it. Just dont use cheap ass extension cords with it and dont let the plants grow up on it and it will be fine. Might dry out your air a bit tho.

I live in SD and my tent has direct airflow coming in from window. My intake runs 24/7, exhaust is on light timer schedule. My carbon filter is connected to a can fan and runs 24/7 inside the tent (4x4). But if you must use a heater, go electric. A digital one can be set at a low temp and left. One with fuel has to be used with extra precaution, checked/filled and the exhaust from it is an issue. Just a thought.

These are the most efficient electric heaters due to the oils high capability of retaining heat. They are completely safe. My house was heated by a wood stove and I had one of these heaters as supplementary to regulate my daughters bedroom temps. They really will never be on full blast...unless you have no insulation.

I agree, the oil filled radiant heaters are a much safer and cheaper alternative to full blown electric heaters and when used in conjunction with a gfci you can rest a bit easier at night as well. All of my 24/7 equipment is on a gfci receptacle.

Nothing is 100% safe but these are Safer than some alternatives. Just be conscious of the fact that the heater is there and be sure to keep combustibles from setting on top or getting in the middle of the heater. Barring a branch growing through the center and drying out to catch fire these types of heaters dont get that hot to COOK things a foot away. They do pull some power and can overheat cheap ass extension cords or melt wiring so as Asmallvoice stated GFCI when possible.

-4 degrees farenheit winters up here in the north and i've had some ovens like that help me trough the winters! the oil ones are the most reliable! i say they can run 24/7 but as the guys above says dont use a crappy ex. chord and you willl be ok :)
i have 2 on max like 24/7 3months in a row:P

edit : Not tested while growing tho. And the humidity part is kinda unsure. but they are reliable atlest:P

Cost versus/benefit ratio seems undesirable. Your plants will grow okay in those temps, running the heater will be expensive 58F is not that cold.

Really? I thought that once it started to get down into the low 60s as the daytime temp, there would be trouble brewing. But, I guess you're right insofar as the cold temps haven't been obviously destructive.
