would fluorescent tubes work?

Here's the HPS spectrum and fluorescent spectrum overlayed:

As you can see, the fluorescent bulbs are producing nearly the same red extension as the HPS, along with a lot more blue. HPS lacks almost all blue entirely, so whatever role that plays in the plants flowing is not going to be expressed as well. Again, any spectral advantages fluoro bulbs may have is erased if you don't use enough of them - because good light quality doesn't matter if there's just not enough of it.
plants dont use absorb much blue during flowering..thats why an hps will out flower a m/h and a cfl

I was wondering since the plants during veg like blue light would the buds be better quality if you used fluorescents 6500k during vegging then switching to hps during flowering since they like red light during flowering, opposed to just using a hps from seed to harvest I just thought since its not getting the blue light during veg maybe using a hps from seed to harvest the buds wouldnt be as great if I used the fluorescents during veg

if you plan on vegging for a while or keeping a mother and cuttings blue is the way to go, otherwise i use hps for everything. I have never seen much of a difference between mh veg and hps veg..buit then again i only veg for 3-4 weeks tops. most of the time its 1-2 weeks and then i flip the lights. after this round is complete in about 5 weeks im going to do a scrog and veg out for a while longer.im going to use cfls to veg just to cut the power usage. :joint:

Problem with the fluoros is the intensity. you can get the light very close and the intensity is there but all the lower growth is very spindly. with the hps you're farther away the the lumens are at 3 or 4 times that of fluoros and the lower growth gets higher light levels. that's y some of the fluoro bud "looks" good but the bud is very fluffy and you never get the weight, that you would had you used a hps. I've ran just about every experiment you can think of. G/L
