Worried about clogging w/out cocoliners

I've seen people using aero/hybrid systems without the cocoliners (just drop the hydro-ton in the pot), but I'm worried that any dust that doesn't get rinsed initially will clog the mister heads.
Has anybody ever experienced a problem with this? Or any comments to set me on the right path?

I've never noticed hydroton to be that dusty. I've grown with hydroton and a quick rinse under the sink removed the light dust on it. I have not grown aeroponically, however, so I can't say from experience that it won't be a problem for your misters. I will say, though, that it is my humble opinion you won't run into issues. Just keep an eye on the misters when you first start growing and look for any signs of trouble.

i always wash my hydroton first from brand new bags, that is when they tend to be really dusty but no, as long as you have a filter you are good ;0

As in an inline water filter? My pump sits directly in the reservoir, no lines to install a filter onto. It is a GH RainForest.
I guess i could install a filter inline with the chiller, but what type of filter? I wouldn't want to filter out nutrients. Whatever the cost, if it means not having a problem, I'm open to hear it.

If you are using non-organic, mineral based hydro nutes (like the GH 3 part series) you won't be able to filter it out with something that removes particulate. If you are using organic nutes, check the bottle. It might say if you can use it with a filter.
