World's Dumbest Growing Advice

How many people have said that they tried growing under heat lamps..?

Then argue with you that they grew great plants if you try to give them some advice.

Oh, and the old pile it up wet and let it ferment for a couple of weeksw to help the smell and potence.

Yeah, mold is good for you..

Smoke your seeds and stems first as "app" to the good stuff. (I know. No growing, but I can't tell you the number of people growing up that would do that. ICK

One of the early "How to Grow" books stated it was a great way to increase the THC while helping the smell. Even years ago I just shook my head and took another hit. I have two editions of the same thick paperback sold in HT and it is funny how much they changed from one to the other, and how out of date the newest one is.

Okay, now anyone over the age of 35 should be able to back me up on this. I can remember clearly many times being told back in the 70's that if you took your Z of weed and sprayed it with water and then put it in a tin coffee can and buried it in the ground for three weeks, it would TRIPLE the potency!! A mold will grow on it, but THAT'S GOOD! Holey mother of pearl I thought....

Smoke the mold! It's good for you! lawdy....

Yeah, same thing as the wet pile..

Mold is bad Em'Kay.

No wonder they never made it to the THC levels that are around now. They ruined it most of the time.

And reading how experience growers would roll cigars out of the male flowers as a special treat.... NOt good.

worst i've ever heard:

don't use molasses in your grow because the sugar from the molasses will stay in the bud and then your bud will taste and smell like burnt sugar.

harvest your plant with the roots intact. you then have to hang your totally intact plant upside down for a week because the thc has to drain out of the root system.

sometimes i just check out "newbie central" for the laughs.

oh man... the perpetuation of bad information is incredible.

Yeah I heard that one too and it's still in circulation. I think I run across that advice on a monthly basis at least. Some bullshit never dies...

That's almost as good as boiling the roots before cutting from the plant to activate the the process.

I think the 'draining' THC is a combination of a few rumors attached to hang drying as a means of letting the buds dry evenly for the smoothest smoke.
They just think 'best smoke' means 'highest potency.' Anyone who enjoys good cigars knows there is a universe of difference between a well cured plant and a cheap and fast cured plant, tobacco is the same as far as curing requirements. So they misinterpret it and knowing THC is what gets you high (mostly) then therefore the hanging must be to 'drain' THC. It's not understanding the 'why' but knowing the 'how' makes it seem logical to leave the roots on.

I don't like to know 'how' to do things without knowing 'why' first, makes preventing mistakes much easier.

 I can't believe that advice was so dominant when i was growing up. Luckily, I've always had a pretty good BS filter in my head.

I've heard that dry ice gassing out with weed will increase it's potency as well.... but I never tried that one either.

i have had some very very dumb ass advice from friends who i smoke with who have no idea i have grown in the past, they pretend to know it all whereas i keep very queite about my experience growing.

one friend showed me some weed he had the other day, because i have organically grown quite a few diff strains i know what decent bud should look, taste and smell like. The bud he had was blatently contaminated, sprayed with something that im sure can kill you! he assured me it is merely the "nutes" growers use. I felt like slapping the idiot but didnt want him to click on so i just agreed with him.

He also seems to think that he can tell the name of a strain by just looking at it and smelling it, says he is never wrong and whenever we pick up bud he says its this or its that and thats the final word, i feel like telling him he is such a wanker.

A lot of people will pretend to know about growing etc however thankfully the majority of people on here are past that level as they have actively taken the steps to learn more rather than just hear say off the "streets"

There two types of grower, one that is interested in the end product and effect of that product when he/she consumes it, the other grower is one that is only interested in the money after a quick shabby harvest and does not care about end product at all. You choose whose advice you would want lol

People say alot of things on these boards
and I think 95% of the bullshit said on here
is mainly to just get a little attention.

But I'm a firm believer of the Ol' saying.
"Stupid is as stupid does"

i actually read something about the dry ice thing today because the gas is co2 or some shit but idk if it works , if its worth it, or anything that pertains to it.

and man you wont believe how many people are somehow jus that retarded to believe every thing then pass it off as the one and only truth and defend it to the death..... i mean i got a lil bit of experience mostly trial and error( wish i had sites like this a few years back haha) but hell ill be a noob til the day i die i can always learn something and nothing is set in stone :joint:

it's the 20 lb tomato syndrome. Miracle Grow use to have those with-MG/without-MG ads that show a giant freakin tomato next to a cherry tomato and claimed their product made the difference.
Alot of starters see these huge yields (colas the size of footballs) in High Times and think there is some (secret) magic bullet. It's easier for them to think driving a railroad spike through the plant is what did it instead of all the hard work and time it took to grow the plant under optimal conditions.

the worst i have gotten was to put a mix of piss and fruit juice on my plant?
And just how do you imagine the person that told you this "learned" the tip? I can imagine someone out all night wasted on screwdrivers or MaiTai's staggering hungover to their garden and pissing all over it. lol
As funny as these tips are, its even more entertaining to imagine the thought processes that led to their "discovery".

Man, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the old birth control pill to get a female trick. That's an old one...

I think there may be *some* merit to the wet it and bury it method. From what I've read (I'm not saying it's true because I've never done any extensive research on mold) there's a specific kind of mold that might possibly enhance the potency of the herb. Apparently this one type of mold doesn't cause any harm to a person when inhaled, but you're more likely to grow one of the more common molds that *is* bad for you than you are to get the "right" mold that supposedly enhances the potency.

Anyway, sounds pretty stupid to me either way. Why risk completely ruining your smoke for a 1 in a million chance that you might end up with this "super mold" on your buds?

I love the one about hanging the plants up with the roots on so the THC will drain out of the roots. I read the thread where that guy was absolutely insisting that he was right even though like a hundred people were telling him he was wrong. I think eventually he gave up and admitted that it was some crap he'd heard from some old hippie. I mean, really.. if the THC has to "drain out" of the roots and into the buds... why not just harvest and smoke the roots in the first place? LOL...
