Ive got my newly made Hempy Buckets ready for transplanting my clones into tomorrow. I decided to go with 3g pails with rock/perlite rez on bottom and about an 80/20 Coco/perlite mix. It was brick Coco and i tested the runoff with 17ppm going in and it was 800ppm coming out. So I flushed it down...then loaded it with some Calimagic and ph'd to 6.0
I've never grown in Coco before. I've read quite a bit where people say to water Coco daily. Even in the coco hempys they water daily at first and some even continue daily for the whole grow...while some opt to water every couple days.
The thing I can't seem to find info on:
If you're watering daily...would you be feeding full nutrients everyday....or maybe half everyday?
I'm coming from grows using Pro-Mix so it was basically feed...wait for it to dry a bit...then water...wait...then feed again.
I'll be using MegaCrop for my base nutes.

So, for example, if I was feeding 500ppm twice a week using Pro-Mix...would I still use 500ppm now but everyday?

Sorry if it's a dumb question...just trying to wrap my head around this and I've got some nice clones that I don't want to kill. Lol

Yes they do contain coco, hempy himself ended up using coco in the end.
@tst2015 if your going to feed every day the container needs to be fully rooted out and if it is then you have no choice, as for nutrients yeah reduce them ie if your normally runnin ec1.2 use ec1.0 and see how the plants like it.

Coco/Perlite 50/50 mix for media and hydroton for the res plant in red is not in hempy. I had 19 plants in this space 100cm tall x 4.8ft x 2.5 ft. 285 watts of Samsung strips

if I recall it was on icmag and if your that bothered or nothing better to do go and google it, but really does it matter coco/perlite/ etc all work in hempy buckets. If it wasn't better than the original mix I wouldn't be doing it simple. I have tried every method with the same strain clones from my mother plant and I settled on the coco/perlite and hydroton res it just works better for me. Try it and see then come back with your results.

I read the first 15 pages of the original hempy thread on icmag and you are correct. I have grown in coco for many years - I just never saw the advantage of the 2" reservoir when using a medium that is able to wick and absorb moisture like coco. Good luck to you.

@MickFoster sorry if I came across rather blunt, the subject has been debated every where for a life time now. There has certainly been lots of different methods posted over the years from simple to over complicated (it was ment to be a simple method so he didn't have to water daily that's all). A lot of hempys original posts was from before the internet as most know it today so can be hard to find to be honest. Everyone likes to experiment stops us getting bored. Cheers.

Thanks guys. I've got no experience with coco so it's a little overwhelming trying to learn all about it. Originally, I was going to use just a perlite/vermiculite bucket but for some reason, good perlite is tough to find around here. All I can find is pretty fine particles. And it's not cheap when I can find it. It cost me about $15 for enough coco to do 5 buckets. The same amount of that fine Perlite would have been about $50
Also, I was worried about the plant falling over in the perlite...lol
But next grow I might try straight Perlite if I can find it for a decent price. I like trying different things. I'm also thinking about trying Autopots...just because I can leave for a few days without worrying about figuring out how to water my plants.

depends on your coco to perlite ratio...the more coco you have, the less often you NEED to water...you can still water every day if you want to, it won't hurt anything, but at 80/20, you probably only NEED to water twice a week....i run about 70/30, and water every other day, till i get a little run off.

I can't take the time to run through all 472 pages but could I combine hempy with Blumats? Water from the top until fully rooted and then set Blumats water so to lightly run out of the bucket overflow hole?

Hempy is simple hence you don't piss about, ie it works and works really well.

The original hempy style was using perlite and vermiculite but then found out that coco and hydroton worked better. So thats where it ended. No need to reinvent the simple.
