I used 160 actual watts per plant, and got excellent results. That works out to be about 6 26watt CFL's per plant. these plants were 2 and 3 feet tall. keep the CFL's as close as you can, 1-3 inches with decent air movement.
Position and proximity is KEY!

I am using 85watts CFL s in daylight (5700k vegetation) and warm white (2700k flowering).

They do get hot, not at the looping tube part, but at the plastic bottom.

If you have good ventilation, this causes no problem. I have a 80cm by 80cm, 160cm high homebox, I run 8 of these making 680watts (actual watts) plus 4 fluoros and my temp, when lights are on is 27-29C and 24-26C when lights are off.

Unlike most I keep my lights at least 10cm s away from the plants, feel it works good as my grow is going well enough.

If you do not have proper venting though you can see some heat build up, before I had an cool air inlet and carbon filtered exhaust, I have seen 40C which stunted my grow a few weeks.

You can check my setup at my thread, the link is in the signature.

100w per plant is very good and better than most cfl growers. Important too is a mix of lighting (2700 and 6500k) and positioning. Except for very young seedlings, cfls should be 2-4 in from foliage.

now build a super light frame with mylar and wire coat hangers. It will reflect the back of the bulb and increases your output by 30% off the bat.

3 bulbs, 30 dollars, 95 days=2 ounzes of great personal smoke(2-3 small plants). Too bad that only last like 6 weeks or 42 days.

1 42 w cfl (sw), 1 23 w cfl (sw), 1 23 w 2.0 UVB (key ingrediant) Makes small plants even out of sativas with tons of crystals.

Anyways the numberone thing is safety. On a day off you should most def check you heat that your grow is putting out. Also you should only use ceramic outlets, no old lamps and other BS. If you get splitters make sure they are good quality. I have taken apart the temp lights with reflectors you can get at home depot and they are good quality. The reflector can be put on backwars they sliced and folded down to use as a customisable reflector.

Two drawbacks
1 very small plants, very small yields.

2 UVB bulb is a little hotter on average so you gotta be sure its clear of foliage.

The Good

1. 25 bucks and 90 days later you got a couple onces of personal bud.

2. Less bulbs are less money and less problems and less electric loading!

3. No noise, low heat. Cheap start up. About 50 bucks all said and done.

I run 350 (actual) watts of CFL's in a 1metre x1metre cabinet and get very good results. Most of that 350watts is concentrated at the top of the box and raise the pots to about 3" of the bulbs. I reckon this should be good for your Diesel Ryders :-)

Pic shows last harvest, 2 small Kush plants single pot, (I run 2 per pot as I grow 12/12 from seed/perpetual style), and I keep 2 of these 8 litre pots going at all times under the 350watts.... does for me!

Hope this helps, good luck, the DR is a great strain, I tell you that from experience.

we consume about the same...aprox. 1 gram a day (when i have it) so an ounce might last me a month...I'm still working to get a perpetual system going...using two cabinets, a PC case and a small closet cabinet...i'll get it dialed in soon...peace :leaf:

yeah for ex. I do it like that
First I started with whole daylight (5700k) and then started changing one by one to (2700)
It means I bought more lights I can put in but it is less stressful and a smooth transition for the plant, or so I think :)

First week: 8 daylights (seedling stage) (24/24)
2 to 3 weeks: 7 daylights 1 warm whites (veg state) (22/2)
4 to 6 weeks: 6 daylights 2 warm whites (veg state) (20/4)
6 to 8 weeks: 5 daylights 3 warm whites (veg state) (18/6 and 16/8)
8 to 9 weeks: 4 daylights 4 warm whites (preflowering) (13/11)
9 to 11 weeks: 3 daylights 5 warm whites (flowering) (12/12)
11 to 14 weeks: 2 daylights 6 warm whites (flowering) (12/12)
14 to 16 or 17 weeks: 1 daylight 7 warm whites) (flowering) (12/12)

This is just my way of doing it, you can try yours :)

this time I had a heat issue and got my growth halted 2-3 weeks
Because of that they are not that big, around 55cm at the end of veg now
They should have been around 75cm
Now they are roughly be around 75cm to 100cm finished
They should ve been around 100cm to 130cm finished if I hadnt the heat issue

heat issue, i'll be dammed! Less light ok, add 30-50% to your lights by making some sort of reflector. Less bulbs, less heat, more light.
