Wiring ? I need your help guys!

Hey guys ive got an open 20Abreaker with a wire from it that is open. I went and got a 20A 125V uotlet and need to know how to wire it. The wire has a black, white, and a bare coppre wires in it. The plug has two screws on each side and ground at the bottom. Its a basic outlet no circut in it. Ill be running a timed surge protector on it lmk any info u guys can I appriciate it!!!

superstoner is correct. one issue though. standard wire in a house only uses 15 amp breaker. if that wire is less then 14 gage that 20 should not be used . go get a 15 amp breaker about 4 bucks. unless your house is newer 10 years or less the 20 may be standard. if there are other 20 amps in the box you are fin if not use 15

Hey guys I got it wired and running today. But there was a second hot wire that was cut short enough th were it was back in the insulation should I run that as well or leave it be?
Anyway thanks for the input I sure appriciate it.

I would consider calling an electrician.

Then it sounds like you have a 240v line and have split it to run a 120v fom it, this is not the best thing and not the safest.
 
Single or Double breaker? We need pics! Your best bet is to call an electrician, if there's extra wires and uncertainty don't turn it on!

the third wire doesnt necessairly mean it is 240v it could be a 14-3 wire commonly used when wiring lighting for a house or outlets that you want to daisy chain together. pics would help out alot here but i also agree with every one else if you dont know what you r doing DO NOT try eletric mishaps will burn you place down

Sorry guys ive been really bizy. It is a single breaker and the wire is run to the florecent in the garage and the front security lights the open wire I found I assume was for rear lighting. Heres pics of the outlet

I do have it wired and its working. The wire has red,black,white,and bare I just need to know if I should connect the second hot wire.also the second breaker in the garage is 15a and runs the outlets not any lighting
