windowscreen diy air/smart pots

tyrna make some homemade air pots with window screen, durable, breatheable, seems like a good idea rite? well the only downside is would the metal leach into the soil? is there anythin i could put around the inside or somethin? please help i posted it before and noones said anythin
preciate it

Screen is usually fiberglass.

it looks like a metaly type thing but you think theyd be ok even if they werre metal? thanks for the reply.
and b166 i tried it with grow bags and a hole punch but the plastic was to think and it didnt really make solid holes, and and i think grocery bags would prob fall aparrt after a while but idk i like the fabric would those 50 lb rice bags work? hmmm

You could drill a lot of holes in cheap or recycled nursery pots.

1 - I wouldn't bother trying to make your own because 1 reason that it would more then likely dry out faster then the ones that you bought that are made that way.
2 - Your better off trying to make your own from plastic pots and doing test plants in them

I make mine out of polyester felt. They work great.

I was thinking of drilling holes into a five gallon bucket all over and lining it with a thin black cotton t shirt on the inside. But that will still heat up.

Or..... You could drop a few bucks on www.geopot.com ........ they are made of fabric, have handles, are durable, and when I bought these at hempcon, the guy said "I garuntee you 110% they will give you a better quality plant that anything else"......

I had a few ladies inside the grow space and they were all very stressed except the geopot girl. She was smaller, but her quality went unmatched.

I just checked geopots site and you can't go wrong. They are inexpensive and you will be amazed of the quality of the fabric durability and how easy they breathe.

Cotton would be a poor choice. It degrades too quickly. I used cotton thread on my first few pots. They broke within a few months. I love geopots, but I made 8 7gal pots for $10 and a few hours time. Mine are also very durable and have nylon webbing handles. My smaller sizes include Velcro along the side for easy transplanting.

I'm going to try and use the fabric bags that store's sell for 1$ to replace plastic grocery bags. They're sturdy and breathable and allow for drainage. Smart parts are like 3.50$ a piece for 2 gal, the fabric bags fit at least 3 gals, depending on where you buy them and what size.
