Window Growing - No Budget

Hey basically i was wondering if anyone has successfully grown any plants with no equipment at all, i am not a dealer or a grower, i just like the occasional smoke.

I got 4 seeds out of a bag my buddy gave me the other day and was wondering if what he said to do would work.

He said to grow without spending, just put them in a pot with some soil and put them on your window sill making sure it gets 12 hours of light then 12 hours of darkness in a cupboard making sure to water every 2 days, if i were to do this would i get any smoke from it? if so how much? how long would it take? i have absolutely no idea when it comes to this stuff so as much help as you can offer would be appreciated.

Edit: Iv just been told to also include that i have a 100w bulb and a deskfan.

Would you be as kind as to share your experience with me, like i said i have no idea with the growing phase, just the smoking phase, if you would help me out by giving me a step by step, or at least just the first step, can i just use regular soil that you would use to grow flowers, and how big or small should the pot be, should i put all 4 seeds together or in separate pots?

plz help i am the newbiest of newbs and have 0% chance of anything without some help

There are people that successfully use miracle grow soil that doesn't have the time release nutes in it. Don't put all four seeds in the same container. I advise to start in a smaller container and up pot to larger ones as you go. It's easier to manage watering that way. Don't over water. When I grew in a widow I started in the spring time and let nature take it's course as the summer wound down to fall and the sun naturally shifted towards 12/12. There is alot alot of reading you need to do. I would also advise before you attempt to grow some ganja you gain some experience by growing some basil. You can even practice topping it and getting the hang of proper watering. Either way Good Luck and Happy Growing, don't let negative people that may be here get you down. Everyone starts somewhere.

We have grown plants in the sunshine from the window sunshine, 2 ounces/plant is doable with sunlight

Wow dude, you need to have a better outlook than that...come on, say it with me...I am someone, and dammit, I'm good enough to grow MJ...LMFAO...dude read around and you will get all the info you need...start by not putting more than 1 bean per pot........fuck man.......get some Miracle Grow moisture control soil (don't listen to the MG haters) get some MG Perlite, mix the soil and the perlite together at 3 to 1 (3 part soil to 1 part perlite, use a solo cup to measure it) make sure it's mixed really well, this is for good drainage and so oxygen can hit the roots, set this aside...start your beans in seedling starter mix, I germ my beans in a damp paper towel in a plastic bag in a towel in a warm room...check them daily, usually pop by the 3rd day...carefully put the popped bean 1/4 to half inch into starter mix, (I start in 1 gal pots)...leave it in the starter mix for at least 2-3 weeks before putting into your new soil, and don't over water it...good luck and do some reading buddy...and welcome to RIU...

thanks for this, but like the title says i want to try and do this without spending anything, would it be possible to grow them following what you have said minus the MG stuff?

When you say that it implies i will get absolutely nothing from this seed, do you mean it wont even grow, or do you mean there will be minimal yield and poor weed? if it just shit weed i can handle that, i can just smoke more of it, even if the weed is so weak i smoke the whole plant in one blaze session, i still count that as a win for someone who hasnt even contemplated the idea of growing before.

You have got to learn somehow , it's only bag seed anyway , Give it a go

Just make sure the lighting schedule is not erratic , This can be supper simple or complicated

Thanx pal i am going to, i mean im certain i will make a return to RIU in the next week or so about a problem but iv been reading up on a couple of things, male/female for a start, im not too sure how to tell the difference early on like most people can, but iv read that males can still be smoked, though theyre not as nice and not as strong, but im sure iv had worse and im sure most on here have aswell, i cant see it being any worse than when you pull all your leftover roaches + resin together for that "last joint", but in any case im going to give it a shot, and good thing is if i fail i have 4 seeds so i have 3 restart buttons.

...bahahahaha...if you're gona do it, you're gona do it...Some good advice for ya then...save all your eggshells, coffee grounds, meat/fish left-overs, mix this all with some mulch (leaves, grass, some dirt) and dig a 2ft deep by 3 ft diameter hole, you can use the dirt from the hole, sift the dirt with a chicken wire screen for debris and rocks...now throw all that shit in that hole and mix it up...find ya a bunch of earth worms and stick in that hole too...keep adding all your high protein waste as well as, like I said, your coffee grounds and eggshells...do this for the rest of the winter and you may be ready for spring good luck to ya...

Just don't come here asking 1000x questions about your window sill grow.
It is a waste of time to even bother answering. If you want to do a window sill grow for learning, well learn from it.

Go to the beginning of this forum and read all the posts by Sticky. Then, as a gardener, but a Newbie to this plant, I have discovered that growing a marijuana plant is very simple, just like growing any other plant. Getting a good yield is something completely different, and the first thing I learned is that it needs a lot of light. Porch light, if it comes through a window is not as good as pure sun on it, so yes, you need light. IMHO you will have to spend a little. I think the cheapest way to go is to get a reflector from a feed store that they use to keep chickens warm. ($10) Get a 23w/100w CFL from Lowes. ($5) Get a cool white light for vegging. If they grow OK, write back to this forum in a couple of weeks for more advice. If they are all growing you will have to invest in another "chicken light" or two. and some Warm white cfl's.

1- 23 watt light is probably even worse than growing on a windowsill.....

You get what you give. If you don't give them food then you won't get shit. Growing cost money. Good luck doing 12/12 from seed in a window using nothing but soil and water. I estimate you'll get about 3 weeks in, of that and your plant is gonna be limped up and dead like my unsuccessful clones. I mean, the way I look at growing is go big or go home. I wasted so much money going small, and upgrading. When I first started I used 2 cfl for veg which works good, you can use them for veg. I had enough money for a 150w hps so I decided to buy that and veg with that and flower with it too. We'll I started flowering and the 150w hps didn't seem to be doing shit... I quickly then upgraded to a 400w hps. I completed 5 grows with it, I bought a metal halide conversion bulb and used it for veg and flower and just tossed out the CFls.. Actually I think I use them for my ceiling lights now lol.. But now I'm on my 6 grow (yes I count my grows) and I got a phantom 600w ballast and am moving up... We'll trying to anyways loll. If I would have just bought the z600w from the start I would have saved about 500bucks or more...

not to mention if you keep doing nothing but window lighting.. Good lucky... However if you decide to get lights read below...


Remember that your using electricity for every light you use.. Make sure you get good lights that will give you more then you spend. Growing is in expensive once your setup. It's the start up costs that is a lot. I spent over 1k for my 400w setup. I'm more close to 2k setup cost now... But I produce enough to pay for the supplies... My lights and stuff is already paid for lmao. I haven't bought weed since before I joined this site.

^ Yep Fir, I have about 500 bucks of bullshit piled up in a corner that is nothing but junk once I upgraded.

Wish there was a site full of experienced growers to advise me when I first started indoor growing and could have saved me so much money, time, and headache.

My thoughts, if you cannot come up with 500 bucks to put together a grow area, go buy it off the street. I know there are plenty of people who are as half-assed as they can be and will defend half-assness to the day they die, but that is what seperates people like me from them.

The problem I have with this is the cost of electric versus the growth rate.

Cfl take awhile to veg to a decent size. One 23w will only be good for maybe 3 weeks? If that depending how many plants. I mean I was in the same situation but I just bit the bullet and I'm glad I did. I see all kinds of grows in cardboard boxes and shit that's a complete fire hazard because they don't want to spend... Instead of buying weed, use the money on equipment and dry out a bit so when you take the first hit of your own stuff, you will get wasted..win win if you ask me..

1 plant under that light will take at least 5 weeks veg to get it to 12-18 inches tall... Then you flower it under what? More cfl? I would say minimum 250w hid... Honestly I would go 400w hid to actually get something worth smoking lol. My opinions let you all bash me
