Wilty sprouts cause?

I use Jiffy cubes to sprout seeds, mostly because they're nicely portable and those rapid cubes are really for cuttings, not seeds.

I've successfully sprouted at least 100 seeds that way over the course of however long it's been since California legalized growing your own.

But for the last 2 weeks, I can't get them to grow. They sprout nicely. I have a little light over the sprouting chamber so they even green up and grow the start of the first 2 real leaves.

Then when I put them into dirt, they wilt over completely by the next day.

The dirt is very used. I just add that pink osmocote, otherwise nothing.

But it was dry before adding a new one, and I put mosquito dunks into the water. And no sign of gnat infestation.

Seeds are 2 years old, and not always kept in the fridge.

Anyone run into little sprouts wilting over in a day? I'm on #6 using 4 different sets of dirt in cloth bags.

If they're sprouting that I doubt that the age 9f the seeds matter. Have you ph tested your soil, it could be extremely acidic 8f you have been continuously adding nutes for multiple cycles.

Thank you! Great idea. I'll do it immediately.

Nice blond too. I brought one like that home to Mom once. She didn't approve. 30 years later, I still have to hear about it.

But I did get her to eat some 5mg gummies to help with foot pain. So old people can learn new tricks.

check your Ph of both the rooters and soil

I'd be free of adding any nute or crap at this stage

add the stuff in a week or 2

good luck

I tested the Ph of 2 of them. One was 6, the other was 7. So that's not it.

Maybe excessive nitrogen from adding a tablespoon of Osmocote each grow (every 3 months)?

Certainly I'll use fresh dirt when I get more to sprout.

For a while I had Rats!!!! They sneak in and bite the sprout's head off. If the plant has a few big real leaves, they don't bother with it.

It's sprout apocalypse here these days!

is this not "damping off" and caused by fungus?

also, if you hate rats you'll love this guy's YT channel, here are a couple of videos about some of the best (and expensive) rat and mouse traps yet invented:

Maybe. But it happened so fast.

Could be my incubation chamber for the jiffy pellets is infected. I've sprayed it with peroxide recently, but I'll try moving them to a different one.

Yep, it was fungus damping off. In my jiffy cube mini-greenhouse. I've been using it for a few years without cleaning it. I guess it got a bad strain.

Killed 4 plants just like that. Wilted and died just before it started on the first real leaves.

I got a new container and just sprouted 4 replacements, none dead.

You have to see something like that to believe it. No noticeable mold.
