Hey I need to figure out the easiest way to sprout my seeds this year and it needs to be stealthy too. I was wondering if the light below will be good enough to sprout my seeds to 8 inches. I plan on sproutin 10 fem seeds in a stealth box thats around 4ft L x 3ft W x 2 ft tall. I know CFL's are better but im not electrician and dont know how to set up outlets for the bulbs or anything so i was hoping that this light would be good enough? also if it is do you think i will need multiple for 10 seeds? should i buy 2 or maybe 3 of these lights? + rep if your helpful, i wanna get started with some bagseeds before i try my fem. Also these plants are going outside thats why this is in the outdoor forum

Overview

This 17 in. fluorescent linear is intended for surface mounting only, inside, under or over cabinets in any direction. It's an ideal fixture for work surface lighting, for display cabinet lighting or as indirect lighting. It can be hard wired using the integrated junction box or plugged into outlet with the supplied power cord. Its low profile makes it very easy to hide behind standard cabinet trims and multiple fixtures can be linked together, up to 500 W per circuit. This fluorescent fixture is more efficient than incandescent lights.
  • T5 8W (4200°K) fluorescent tube included
  • Integrated on / off switch
  • Built-in direct wiring compartment
  • 5 ft. detachable power cord included
  • 16 in. Interconnection cord included

4200k think that its 6k up for veg but thats ok for flower.
You dont need light to germinate,Ive germinated with nothing on window sil in propegator.
Never tried flourescents but I brought a t12 58 3500k for starting and got told its ok for starting but I need 6k pluss for veg.
I only want it for 1st few weeks the il wack the 600 hps on so i think Im good.
Im no expert though.
cfl forum has loads of stuff on this and you should see my post and replies I got.
Theres people who know exactly whats ok and im sure they will be a long but in a nut shell yes it will help for germinating and 1st weeks or 2 but then you deffo need 6000k I think its actually 7000k cant remember exacly.7000k pluss for veg and under 4000k for flower, dont hold me to that, look for my thread.

I think you would need 2 for 10 but depends what size your planning on going to with them lights.1 might just do it.if your going above sa 4 inch Id get 2.

that will work.

put the seeds in the paper towel method , or get yourself some peat moss pellets

start them in the papertowel for 2-3 days dry room, room temperature spot, complete darkness.

plant in the pellets sperm side down cover with soil, lightly water damp not soggy.

put them under your light in your grow area, no more then 3 inches aweay from the top of the soil.

should work. report back with how it goes.

I wouldn't buy that. Not to get 10 seeds to 8 inches. Maybe some 4 ft T5HOs in the proper veg spectrum. That deal is only 8w and 6500k would be better.
I agree,
Go to Home depot and buy three clamp on reflectors and put three daylight cfl's in them. (preferably 6500 Kelvin) then keep them within three inches for the first few days, then move them to within 2 and keep them there until transplant time. I'm afraid you'll get too much stretching with weak lighting and end up with leggy, spindly teenagers.

Good luck,
Hops

That light should work but with the lower power output it might take a while to get them to 8 inches I can see 4 from that then I would switch to a real light.
