Will my technique work?

On a plate, I wet a paper towel, placed the seed on top, and then placed another wet paper towel on top of the seed. Then I covered it all with a bowl. Do you think this will work, or should I just place the seed in a small shot glass and let it soak in there?

Which process is better?

Try the paper towel method first, then leave in a glass if they don't crack within a week or so. Keep em warm but not hot and don't let em dry out

Agreed, place your place on or next to a game console if you have one, give off nice heat that the seeds love for germination. I get tap roots in 2 - 3 days max with this method. Good luck

Is it a problem that the seed was in a drawer before I began germinating it? Or should I not let it dry out once the germination begins? My seed looks like there is a tiny hole on one end. Is that good news?

Make sure your paper towel is always moist and keep the plates warm, and that hole is a good sign ;). Good luck mate

I had some random bagseed i tried to germ in a paper towel and after failing for weeks i just abandoned them in a cup of water and left it. Randomly checked it when i was gonna throw them out weeks later and 1 had cracked. This was after they'd been soaked and dried several times so soaking them does work but personally i'd only do it when all else has failed. got nothing to lose that way

I put mine in a bag to keep in moisture, just like a plastic grocery bag. Your method plus the bag has worked on every seed here.

true. i do use a black plastic bag. i also do a cereal bowl on the bottom, then a plate with the towel and a another cereal bowl on top. all wrapped in a black bag.

Alright fellas, it cracked open today! A little root! Alright, so how long should the root get before I plant it? It is maybe a cm at best right now. Should I let it sit for one more day in the towel, let it get bigger then plant it?

I wait for a 1/4" tap root and I pop it in soil. Technically it could go in now, but I'm a believer that a longer root has better potential. Good luck mate, hope I could be of some assistance :)

This help has been great! I have another question before I move on. For seedlings, should they be 12/12, or is there something specific seedlings like?

24/0, the more light they can get the better. Seedlings need to store up energy when they're young to produce during darkness later on. With 24 hour light you should see a sprout within a week :). Happy growing

I personally veg for two - two and a half weeks with 24/0 lighting then switch to pre-flower 18/6 for two weeks. After those two weeks I switch to full flower 12/12. That's just my schedule though, I've had good results
