Will Carbon Filter Work Backwards?

Yea...
Speaking of a carbon filter i mean the most original one.
Its metal usually with a white cover that protects from dust on it.

The question is:

Will it work if the air is pushed through it rather than sucked into it?

Or is its mechanism more complicated than that?

Hoping for an answer becuase i'm in the process of designing a grow room out of a closet and with the way i have it set up i will be pushing air through and odorsok vs having it on the intake end of the ventillation system.

as long as the air in being slammed into the carbon it should work...

I've always thought air was supposed to be pushed through it. I've recently found out otherwise.

I tried that crap,I put my filter at the end of the line,its not made to work that way.I installed mine right and have not had any problems since.I was useing a cool tube and installed it at the end,thats been a couple years back and its kinda funny now.......peace

i have mine backwards, it's sat at the other end of the fan in thee attic, moment i installed it the smell in the flat went to zero, or there abouts, i can't smell it and my flatmate has never commented

I could also do it that wayjust connect it to the end intake end of my cool tube...

You seem to be fairly exp would ya mind checking my thread out and giving me your advice on my set up? Sorry for the thread jack but i need some input on the way i've decided to set up my room

A friend of mine is using a can filter like that and it works just fine - I'm planning to do the same as well. Putting the filter inside the room takes up valuable space and limits your ventilation flexibility. For instance, I'll be venting two chambers through a single filter by using a Y fitting and an adjustable damper(for balance), then sending that through the fan, out of the room, and into the can filter.

Just remember to take the white prefilter off the outside and place it on the inside - you don't want to prematurely clog your carbon with dust.

Although you don't have much dust in the room because you're also filtering your intake air, right??? (hint, hint)

It should be noted that one drawback to this is that, since your filter will be running at a positive pressure(air is pushed into it) rather than a negative pressure(air pulled from it) that your duct connections will be more prone to failure. If they fail, you'll be spewing stanky air, possibly revealing your grow(I'm assuming you're a legal MMJ grower like I am, but you still don't want to attract thieves). My backup plan is to have an Ozium timed-dispenser helping to neutralize any stray odors that make it out of the growroom and into the surrounding environment.
