will a hps work for growing?

i was wondering if i got a 150w hps would that be all i need? or should i get a higher wattage
Depends how many plants you are growing or how much yield you want. 150w hps will work, sure. But if you are expecting a pound per plant, forget it. It also depends on your situation. Are you growing in a small cabinet or do you have a large room? Is electricity a problem? Is heat an issue? You have to look at all of your circumstances and go with what you can afford. Best of luck my friend.

i would like a greater yield i have a decent sized grow room my ventillation seems to be doing its job but what i have now is t5 sun leaves system i want something more but i dont think i can afford top of the line equipment right now so i was thinking small whats a good wattage for a good yield

If you're aiming to have about... let's say 5 plants, I'd say 150 would bit a limit use.

If you want more, you'll have to go into aiming for something with more wattage.

I have (2) 150's and 3 plants in a space of 8 sq ft, they do the job pretty well, ive personally never witnessed the handy work of a 400, 600 or 1000 but im sure it belittles my setup....always get more than you think u need, i almost got a 400 twice and should have both times (space is a tent, 2x4x5) temps went from 72 with cfl's to 83 with 1 and 92 with 2, ive since invsted in 2 4" exhaust fans for the top and that got me back around 82-85 throughout the day... good luck man

A 1000w system really doesn't cost much more than a 400 w system. Especially when you factor the increase in quality and yield. Personally I would use the t5 for veg and get a 600w hps or switchable ballast. Consider a cooltube or some kind of aircooled reflector. They are definitely worth the money IMO.
