will a 9v transformer work?

It should work fine, although in the interests of fire safety it may not be a wise idea. I'd at least watch it run for a few hours and make sure it doesn't get too hot or anything.

anyone else? A cpu fan is 12v and an old powered speaker adapter/transformer is 9v. Will this work spliced together? or is it better to use the cell phone ones? or just find a 12v one?

It would probably be one. for a carbon smell trap. The keep it simple silly. kiss method would say It would preferably just be plugged in to the same power strip as the lights and timers and not anything extra for heat and noise. Just spliced in to a regular 9 or 12v power adapter. This will work right?
