I have two brand new 175 watt metal halide light fixtures that I got for free. There not designed for growing but they have a reflector similar to the grow lights you buy. I am currently running cfls and wanted to try running these metal halide fixtures. They will run a HPS in the same fixture you just change the bulb. I would really like to use these and I feel like I would be better off with these instead of the cfls. I guess my question is I see a ton of 4000k and 4100k lamps for sale. Is that good enough for veg or do I need something closer to 6500k? Thanks

I aquired these for a saltwater fish tank and I have had one in use for 5 plus years it has a 10000 K lamp in it. But I have 2 brand new ones hanging around and would love to put them to use

they should be fine, i have vegged using hps lighting with a colour temp of 2100 and they grow fine! with metal halide u get tighter node spacings and a faster growth in veg. and in flower u get more trichs and tight bud structure using the mh! try it, it wont do no harm
