Wild Plant Cross Pollination

This season is my first attempt at an outdoor grow, just to get that out there.

There are wild cannabis plants in the area, and I'm curious as to how close these wild plants can be without worrying about bee's/wind cross-pollinating my 5 feminized plants? I have pulled/culled everything in the immediate vicinity (50' or so at least), but my neighbors place is full of wild plants that are all around 500' from my ladies. Thoughts?

Prevailing winds are generally from the west, if your neighbors are in any other direction it should lower the odds, just a little bit. Not sure about the distance though. 500' sounds like plenty, but I guess outdoors it isn't really all that far. I don't think you have to worry too much about bees, if I remember correctly they aren't attracted to male plants as they don't produce nectar.
Any chance you could get your neighbor to clear the wild plants?

I've kept small male plants in opposite sides of my small 1/2 acre yard without problem but large wild male plants could definitely be an issue at 500 feet away.

If there is heavy vegetation and rolling terrain between your place and your neighbors, you could get lucky and avoid pollination.

Pollen can be carried by wind great distances though. As previously suggested, maybe work something out with your neighbor?

When hemp farming becomes a common thing again, outdoor weed growers will face a new challenge.

Ya my mothers neighbor gave her four clones just so that she wouldn't grow her own and there is heavy vegetation and rolling terrain between them.

Wind carries GM pollen record distances. Pollen from a genetically modified grass has blown on the wind and pollinated other grasses up to 21 kilometres away, says a new study. This distance is “much further than previously measured”, say the authors, and is thought to be a record for any GM pollen.”

Genetically modified grass so they are positive it was delivered by the wind. That’s about 13 miles. So much for 500 feet.

I have read that within a square mile radius is the rule of thumb for pollination in the wild

I have the ok from the neighbors to spray 24d over everything, its too late in the year to do that however. If the ladies to have a few beans I'm not too concerned, all harvest will go towards concentrate anyway. Thanks all

The US Government actually approved hemp on the 2019 farm bill, so in theory large scale hemp production could be here as soon as 2020.... Scary thought

Then we have no time to waste.

We should begin our program of creating a useful hemp fiber plant that also has 20% THC and fight back thru cross pollination . :bigjoint:
