i think we all need to assess the "right to know" versus the "need to know". the black and white truth is that at a certain point you cross the line from being informative to being treasonous or hostile. it's the whole yelling fire in a crowded theater argument. i am always frightened by people who don't understand america's freedoms trying to shout conspiracy every time a first amendment type issue comes up. NO AMERICAN has the right to place any person or this country in danger under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, and i'll be god damned if a forigener is going to just because his server is in another country. now we can argue all day about whether or not assange truely created a danger by what he did, but the fact is he violated our laws. it's so funny how the "snitches get stitches" attitude goes out the window when the government is the "bad guy".

Whistle blowing doesn't equate to snitching, and exposing corruption and criminal politics that fosters a betrayal of trust, extending even to genocide is a duty most don't have the balls to manage.

Patrick Henry shook up the power elite in his day, and there aren't enough like him around today, IMHO.

It's worth noting at this point that Wikileaks tried to get the US government to co-operate with harm minimization, in regards to the recent publications:

I understand that the United States Government has recently devoted substantial resources to examination of these records over many months. Subject to the general objective of ensuring maximum disclosure of information in the public interest, WikiLeaks would be grateful for the United States Government to privately nominate any specific instances (record numbers or names) where it considers the publication of information would put individual persons at significant risk of harm that has not already been addressed. WikiLeaks will respect the confidentiality of advice provided by the United States Government and is prepared to consider any such submissions made without delay. Yours sincerely,

Julian Assange
They responded with a big "fuck you", and demanded that no release at all was made. If they really wanted to save lives of operatives and informants, they could have done so, but chose not to. Obviously they ignored this request so that they could use the whole "endangering lives" argument themselves, and paint Assange as a dangerous subversive.

Wake up people. They don't give a fuck about lives on the ground. It's all just a game to them, and the troops and operatives are the pawns.

This isn't about snitching, it's akin to investigative journalism in it's efforts to bring the truth to light. Too much has been hidden at great cost to many, many people.

If you can't be on the side of truth, it's your choice.

You haven't been paying attention...obviously. There's nothing sensationalistic about it.

Some things DO need revealing. Nixon almost got away with his criminal activity. Daniel Ellsberg saved us, and he has some insightful things to say about Wikileaks.

I seriously hope you're being sarcastic.

What things in life shouldn't be disclosed, besides the things I've already mentioned?

Everything should be disclosed. Certain shit like nuclear weapons systems should be kept SAFE and SECURE so crazy people can't build them.

I'm glad I live in this time, with cell cams and instant sharing capabilities, the shady shit governments do simply can't be kept as secret as they want anymore.

Anybody see that R Senator call the guy a "terrorist"?

lmfao - howbout we use their own fucked up TSA quote for this shit "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear", assholes.

the know-how is accessible, in fact atom bombs are not too complicated, albeit difficult, but the difficulty lies more in the securing of components than anything else..

He is definitely smart. That Natalia anecdote was pretty cool. Still dont agree with what he did. Because of that our cards our on the table and everyone else still has theirs close to their chest.

At least you are still reading it. I was slightly doubtful of his motives until recently, but the things I have read from him, including in that blog, have given me confidence in the fact that he is a positive force, at least in his intentions and character. By now, you may have read "witnessing", and "The non linear effects of leaks on unjust systems of governance", both of which gave me much food for thought.

There's an interesting pdf tucked away in there somewhere as well.

Sorry. ADD. He is smart. Not gonna deny that. But the road to failure is paved with good intentions. Everyone knows this kind of shit goes on. We just never knew all the real gritty details. People say they are all for transparency but that isnt going to be possible unless every major power is on the same page. That isnt going to happen in our lifetime. If you want access to these types of secret documents you should have to: a) have a need to know and b) stop growing pot because youll have to pass a polygraph in order to have a need to know.

Thats my opinion and Im stickin to it (D.M.)

Fair enough, if that's your opinion. The problem is when the people in power get to bury things like "contractors purchasing services of young boys", just to quote an example of one of the memos i just read. But yeah, national security and all that.:wall:

As for transparency not happening in our lifetime, that's just a cop-out. Plus, some of us have kids, so can set our sights a bit longer than that if needs be. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. It's a good thing that some amongst us have the balls to take that step.

True. Plus this stuff isnt really high level stuff anyways. Most of it belongs on Maury.

Nice use of an idiom though. Its totally true. I wish his single step was dumping Iran or NKorea's secrets so we could just invade them already. Id reenlist for that.
