Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

I'm essentially a new grower. As I've yet to get a plant to reach maturity. Either bugs, animals, weather. Or my lack of experience have killed what I tried to grow.

I'm doing 2 beans right now. Only planted yesterday. Don't know what they are. But, I'm hoping one is at least female.

I will try to remove the males. And just grow them outside for seed.

Seed bank spec'ed 'em out at 20-30 grams per plant, and I came in at 29. Given what I'm attempting here, I'm not entirely sure why I should be disappointed. Certainly I expect that my technique will improve over time, but should I be crying into my beer instead?
If I grew a plant and only got 1 ounce that is a huge failure for me, I try to get at least 10 ounces per plant and shoot for 16 oz + per plant. I smoke an ounce a week just of buds and that doesn't include the dabs I smoke.

All depends what kinda grow were talking as far as being happy with yeild .......there's so many variables with different peoples grow space not to mention the legality of it changes from place to place ......I'm lucky to be in a place I feel comfortable growing monster plants ......but if all I had was the space to do a small grow .....I'd do it with different expectations ......just cause someone isn't able to grow monster plants doesn't mean they shouldn not grow and be happy with whatever they harvest ..........don't get me wrong I love my huge plants ....but someone growing dank small plants gets just as much respect as a 14 footer ....

if you know what your doing autos are just as strong! I agree autos might be smaller but considering you can do 2 grows in the same time as a 6month photoperiod seed its alright. I like photoperiod cause there a lot bigger I can get 2 sometimes over 3 pound per plant but with autos lucky to get a pound.
. personally I like to put in say 25 autos and 25 photoperiod seeds for a couple reasons 1 the autos finish early so you can have some ready before most people 2 autos are easy to play with and experiment on 3 photoperiod seeds are for me fun to grow cause they get so big or crown them for a low bushy plant 4 photoperiod plant yield so much and the smoke or end product is fantastic.in saying this if you don't know what your doing neither will come out the best.

Those were 3 ft at chop.

Outdoors with the right size hole they would've gotten bigger and produced half pound in 90 days.

A good breeder can produce fire seeds.
that's an impressive set up mate, love it! wouldn't mind to get some pointers from you lol do you use seeds or clones and where do you get your seeds from if you use seeds??

Yeah but you are basically growing big bud crosses which taste like shit.
Xxl doesn't mean big bud. Think of it like clothes.

http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Blue_Amnesia_XXL_Autoflowering/Dinafem/

I've grown that one. I have grown a few big bud crosses. That amnesia looks nothing like a big bud cross. I showed a pic of it. Straight Christmas tree shape.

Dinafem doesn't list it in the lineage nor does seedfinder.

I won't however bs you either. I though it rather disappointing. Maybe because I read reviews talking it up.
As of to date, the best auto I've had was from mephisto genetics. They were free in a comparative grow. I'm starting a second comparison grow with mephisto.

The whole thread was consistent good looking plants and great smoke reviews.

Even a couple photo growers trying thier first autos.

My opinion has changed over the last few years. At one point I called them crap. Then it was a mixed feeling because they were either really good or really bad. Lately they have been consistently good.

The breeding is getting better.

Its not everyone's cup of tea. I've shown it in my thread. You can take $100 t5 and grow six months worth of smoke. I smoke a lot.

I see the pros and cons both and grow both.

Seeds. Those were autos. If growing photo I would use seeds or clones. Its not legal here. 4 plants is a misdemeanor and usually a ticket to show up to court. Its why I use fem seeds. Plant count.

That is a 8 bulb 432 watt t5 with agromax bulbs. Cost $100 with your choice of all or mix off 6500 or 3000k. The cheap bulbs work fine too. I just prefer mixed spectrum weed.

Autos work great for outdoor stealth growing. You get 2-3 harvest a year and no one sees them.

The best autos I've had are, in order from most liked to least: mephisto genetics, Buddha (not big Buddha), and dinafem.

I produce enough for me to stay high but a mufuckas gotta stay alive also so I always end up running short.

People like their photos, people like their autos. Depends on your lifestyle. Photos are more stable and better for a production aspect for sure. Less plants is also less jail time. Autos are unpredictable but do not require a lot of resources and little to no trimming.

I have 34 of the same strain in my tent and they are all in a slightly different stage of growth and size.

Some times you get that one that grows a thousand tiny buds all the size of a q-tip head like ditch weed. The plant is vinelike and can barely support itself. This is not a good thing for anyone lol, especially a commercial grower. Every diesel and skunk auto I have grown turns out this way.

Autos are the most sugary plants I have grown yet. Really sets out against the other growers in my area. They have a strong high too, unlike everyone claims.

Edit: I have always been partial to SoG grows also, and they are very similar.

I got a plant count limit and live in a legal state so I want as much per plant as I can get, I am testing two of my spots right now with auto plants and will never do it again , instead of getting between 15-20 oz in the space I normally get I think I am going to get about 4 ounces. Just not worth it to me to lose that much of a yield. These are pretty frosty they are already frosting up 1 week into flowering so I agree they might have good quality but I also think that's more on the grower . I think autos are kinda a crapshoot, you might get a good pheno you might not , just not worth it to me when I got proven plants I pheno hunted for, and that's why photo plants are so good , once you find one you like you can keep it and run it over and over.

Yea true, but don't you need consistent results or are you ok with a crapshoot every grow? I like to try new things and I got a space made only for testing but for your main grow area wouldn't running something proven to get you consistent smoke to medicate with?

I'm not supposed to be growing at all. Not that it's stopped all that many people in my area.

I'd be cheering if I got 4 zips from a couple autos. I don't smoke that much.

Yea see we looking for two totally different things then, I am looking for consistent A+ quality buds from my grows, I need them to taste better than the dispensary or it's been a waste of time/money/effort.

As stated I only get to grow four at a time. Of course I need consistency.

You should yield more than four zips outdoors with autos. People regularly pull that indoors.

Lately the autos I've been running have been consistently good to exceptional.

Buying weed is like that for me. A waste of money. I'm mainly looking to keep myself in supply. Largely it's recreational. But, I do actually get sleep. And my knee doesn't fekkin give me the shits when I've got the right stuff.

Who knows. Maybe I'll upgrade my cabinet to something more "tree" capable. Than the shrubs it can do...

I only hit around a half to a heavy zip but I make a lot of errors. All hydro related lol. This grow is better than last and the next will be better than this one. Next grow I am fixing a lot of errors I have been passively commiting for years.
