I said a little bit on the feasibilityof using h3 to sustain a fusion reaction.
now dont get me started on the feasibility of actually mining ore from the moon and bringing it back to earth in usuable condition...

This is Helium-3 ISOTOPE. There is a difference. A BIG one. It does NOT exist on the Earth. So much for lazy or retarded....your turn.
The POLITICAL babble is what the issue is being affected by! Wake up.... who canceled the mission? Not the scientists that's for sure.... not the commercial venture consortium that was forming behind it, that's for sure.... starting to catch on?

The financial gains of this venture would have been astronomical in comparison with the cost.
In fact, this one issue could have put Obama on Mt. Rushmore if he had handled it in FAVOR of the nation, instead of AGAINST it.
But he is a puppet to the union and environmentalists ...who are the very definition of hypocrisy when it comes to this issue.
But they would lose their political grip on the nation....so better to keep the oil tankers floating...and leaking.

It's about CONTROL. And this could have freed the WORLD!
I will give ground on it existing on earth.... but it is RARE and not feasible as a power source AT ALL....so the point is MOOT...

Please link your source. Helium3 is an isotope of helium. Nothing more. Helium3 is the same everywhere...the moon, the earth, whatever. High School chemistry anyone?
As far as the political shat: Cost and NASA's ability to make opening a soda bottle a 3000 page manual is what cancelled the program.
OIL? You're right on that. The world's economy runs on oil and it goes way beyond fuel for our fancy SUVs. EVERYTHING is made with oil in one way or another. I work for a company that is building components for the A-3 test stand and some other things for the Stennis Space Center (can't say what, it's a little TMI for my paranoid self). They are gearing up for a plethora of new technologies and testing. Construction will not be complete for about another 2-3 years though, so sit tight and grab a snickers.

They'll be ready (well, they SHOULD be, it's been a real pain in the ass) for an inagural ceremony.
Who's ceremony it'll be is far from decided. Still got a couple years to go.....

When you are number one in the world in just about everything.... change means only ONE thing.
That's great to hear....but the budget is sliced and diced. No Shuttle... no Ares.... no program for space. What is it we have to now pay to the Russians to "hitchhike a ride? 60 million per person? It could be 20...I forget....but c'mon.
Personally I will miss watching the Shuttle take off and fly over my acreage on return. I'll miss the double sonic booms....
But the USA is missing everything.
WORLD energy.... CLEAN...for 400 years.

The amount reported to power the US with electric power for ONE YEAR is estimated at 25 TONS... not 2000 lbs as one poster stated. Still, I would rather have the surface of the moon being mined or disrupted as there are no wildlife habitats to detstroy, no dangers to anyone here on the planet and best of all...I won't see any of it from MY house.

Yes...all true...but this Constellation Program was THE start to get it all going!! I never said it would be easy... but the POTENTIAL BENEFIT to the entire world would be the GREATEST achievement man has EVER done!! I cannot stress that enough. This isn't chump change...this is REAL CHANGE.

Anyone who is actually informed KNOWS that the White House and Congress have TOTALLY FUDGED the numbers. Like I said...if you tried those accounting tricks...you'd be in prison.

Ask yourself WHY we all have to pay for FOUR years before any benefits kick in.... Realizing that the numbers are based on 10 year projections (CBO's).
By the way, the CBO's numbers have to go by what Congress Gives them...garbage in...garbage out... the Heritage is a REAL accounting...and this is going to be bloodbath of debt and job losses.
AT&T has already announced this will cost them a BILLION dollars in the FIRST year.
