Why so strict about lighting??

Ok, I get it. I've read the biological process of the pigment in the leaves that detects light...but from my more transcendental perspective I go outside and see moonlight, starlight, and even street/home lighting laying beams of light unto plants, and without adverse affects..
So why are you guys so strict about having absolute darkness when out in nature there is a LOT of night at light...some nights it's almost as clear as day..it's kind of freaky if you haven't seen it before.

It probably has a large part to do with the photoperied regulation. If the plant doesent get its 12/12 properly it wont flower at all

experience says it all,,why question?
12/12 in flower mode works!
as nike says,, just do it.
(or get a green filter light if you wanna look at 'em in the dark period)

ive read that even moonlight can prohibit flowering...most cultivators agree that its better to plant on the waxing moon and harvest on the waning moon....
its all about interplanetary stress and gravitational pull

The key point in that link Wiki posted is that when you compare the intensity of natural sunlight, versus moonlight its like 250,000:1 ..... now, if you compare a 400 watt hps bulb to moonlight, or the equiv, that ratio is only like 45,000:1 . So the difference is quite a bit more significant, and in regards to flowering, darkness becomes a relative term.

I completely disagree, not in a hostile way. Why are all outdoor growers in say CA flowering right now. Sun up at 6am sun down at 8pm. I have three weeks left on some strains and they were flowering over a month ago with 14+ hours of daylight.

The simple answer is when growing indoors you want to control your environment. 12/12 simply gaurantees the trigger to flower. Set your lights to 13/11 and call me in a few weeks. You'll be flowering.

Moon lightiing? I don't question it. I just know it's no it doesn't matter.

I realize the purpose of this thread is to overanalyze. But that's the very problem with growing MJ. Everyone thinks too much about it. From boiling roots to adding apple juice to your soil...hanging shit upside down before harvest. Three days of darkness before harvest. It all falls under the best thread on this site. Fdd authored a thread called Bullsh*t. Loved it. It re-affirmed everything I've seen for the last 15 years from my buddies up north that are very successful growers. It's all bullshit...

yep. like your eyes adjusting to a bright light, makes it look darker when you go to a less lit room after looking in your box...icant see shit until my eyes re adjust, like its pitch black in my house.
