You sure it's actually a 4x4? Like every bud is within the 4x4 space? Or the pots are within 4x4 and the canopy extends out? 3.8 from a 4x4 is insane no matter what lights you have I've never hear of anyone getting close to that getting 3+ from a 5x5 or 4x6 is hard. In a 4x4 that would have to be a completely packed full canopy that's like 6' deep

What par values would you reccomend with LED? Tempratures?
PAR Watts are that fraction of the light's output that's actually useful spectrum. So a 1150W (actually pulling 1200W from the wall because you're paying for the power the ballast uses whether you admit it or not) DE HPS at 40% is 460 PAR Watts, divided by the area you're lighting, say 4x5 or 20sq ft is 23 PAR Watts per square foot. People here are generally using between 15-25 PAR Watts per square foot.

I used the term light pressure imprecisely.

HID lights of all types emit a lot of infrared light, which warms the plant. Ambient temperature in such an environment is kept lower to compensate.

LED lights emit less, being more efficient, so air temperatures should be higher. Best results seem to be found in the mid 80s.

It's actualy a 6x12, I average everything into a 4x4 for comparision, I've gotten 6lbs 9oz from a 4x8 tent with a run all from seed. 3 per tray is normal for me.. Anything less and I'm usually not too happy, this is the first time I've gotten close to 4, but being that I have gotten this close 4 doesn't seem so hard to hit. My current run will probably be less than 3 per tray because I ran out of veg plants and only have 8 total and there's some bare spots in the canopy..
A 6x12 is double the space of a 4x8 so I'm not sure why you cut the space in half for your average

Also, an argument I have had with others I would like your thoughts on:

My friends say the plants need IR to grow better.

I disagree, I say the plants need to be a certain temperature, if it gets to that temperature because of IR or AMBIENT, it is THE SAME THING. Its not about the IR , its about leaf temperature!!!


I have been running 95F , 80% humidity, 800 par, 800 co2 and the plants are exploding. Under LED. What you think of this setup? Anything I should lookout for? Im spraying water on my pots to keep them cooler than ambient.

The plants are the final judge. If they like it, it must be okay!

Huh? When I speak in terms of yield I go by x amount of pound per 4x4 tray and light(or watts) since that is the most easily understandable or comparable and for most people 4x4 is the most common footprint. If you had a 2000 sq/ft commercial grow op and you wanted to compare yield to others how would you do it?
Grams per square foot is a much more standard metric. Its just confusing so you have a 6x12 with how many lights? 4? Or 3? It sounds like your lights cover more than a 4x4 but your only counting yield within that 4x4 I've never heard anyone talk about yields in the way you do.
Edit: what makes you think 4x4 is standard? I've never seen or heard of commercial ops using 4x4 tray does gavita even make a reflector for a 4x4? In homes you are correct but alot of tents are a little over 4x4

There's even threads on this forum "yield per 4x4" lol. a 6x12 is equal to 4.5 4x4 trays, im giving you the total yield divided by 4.5.. If you'd like to know the yield per square foot divide by 16 bro.. I talk to a lot of growers on a personal level, texts and calls ect., per light or 4x4 tray is usually what we talk about, I'm not really super active on this forum..
So you run 4 lights and get like 4lb per light since they are all covering more than a 4x4. I hear a few people talk like that it's a good way to make the numbers sound better. I flat out don't believe you yield that much if you do you should start applying at some big grows you yield 2x what the majority of highly experienced growers do

It's simply what most people use and go by.
It's really not I had to special order a grow tray that was an actual 4'x4' they were all at least a few inches over at the grow stores. Sometimes the box says 4x4 but what's inside is 4.5x4.5 that's a pretty big difference. I would love to see a pic of your 3.8oz per square foot grow

Well I am a shit grower and i pulled 3lbs in my first LED grow (3lbs in my second grow just to even it out also), compared to 1lb with my 600HPS running at 660w, ok my LED watts was 1000 but even so....(lets not forget that in veg I was only running 400w too eh)
Stay with HPS boys, you are definitely onto a winner....sigh

I guess the moral of the story is the guys who are running proper LEDs couldn't give a shit what random HPS growers think. Most of us used to be HPS growers ourselves. I wonder why we're not growing under them any more? :roll:

3+lb per 4x4 is entirely possible. I averaged 3-3.5lb per grow in my old 4x4 with 1200W of vertical HPS. Top yield was 59oz

Awaome results!! Mind sharing your temps? Ec feed strength, food? I'm going for exactly what you posts. Big single nugs under led.

I'm running around 500-800 par now, I will increased it to 1000 on my next grow I'll add more lights.

My plants are drinking like crazy. I'm running @95f @1.8ec. I am going through a lot of fertiliser, the plants are growing but I can't really understand where the ferts are going too. My runoff is fine. Maybe the plant is storing it somewhere.


But your results are excellent and I hope I can achieve that aswell! Please share your secrets!


I was an hps grower for years. I haven't beaten my best hps yield from led yet (in space not watt for watt. Led coverage is tricky hps has way better spread by default) . But that's purely because in the past my knowledge of growing under led was limited.


I had half my room led and half my Roop hps for over a year..that's in hind sight a bad idea. You can't run the room hot because some plants are under hps, so I ran my room cold. Obviously my hps out performed!

My latest runs have been pure led. I don't have a single hps, mh light anywhere. Used to have loads. I still am using my T5s

After working with pure leds for the past few months, the thought of an hps is horrible. I do use CMH which runs very cool and is probably a nice alternative to led.

I run 6 x Cxb3590 over a 4x4 consuming 500w. I like to hang my lights faaar away to get more even canopy lighting depth, so my umols are around 600 but I have a meter deep canopy.

Here's a pic of my bud. Not as big as yours. I need to get mine bigger. I'm chasing you! :D
