As such, when that debt is paid, all rights ought to be restored, within reason.
If someone gets a 10 year sentence for child molestation, they ought to be barred from coaching little league.
But I can think of no parallel danger like that involved with the restoration of voting rights to released fellons who satisfy all the requirements of their term and parole. Second amendment rights ought to be restored also in my opinion. And if they get out, do their paper time with no hiccups, then their record ought to be wiped clean as if it never happened.

There is no such thing as "restituting society". Therefore there is no debt to society. When a person commits fraud, theft or an assault they have injured an actual person(s). If there is no actual person to restitute, then "paying a debt to society" has become a substitute for you disobeyed the masters. Of course you already know about mala prohibitum so I won't drag on.
Many felons have never harmed anyone or committed an actual crime (with a real person that is victimized), so I think we agree denying them rights is an act of control over them and serves no purpose.

I would say it was spot on, there are about 8 or 9 black people in prison for every white person. So he had a representational sample.
Which upon further thought, I change my opinion. Since blacks vote 90% for Democrats, and 8 out of 10 prisoners are black, then I'm all for keeping them unable to vote. That would just increase the ease at which a democrat could be elected.

But it did happen. Released criminals have something like a 80% recidivism rate. We should brand the nature of their crimes on their foreheads to warn the public. These people didn't confess their crimes, nor do they willingly make any effort to compensate their victims. These are people that have shown they have no concern for others. They can easily petition to have voting rights restored, but almost none do. It's not like they are a civic-minded group. Almost none of them would even bother to vote either way. Note I exclude pot heads.
