Why doo people want to induce flowering when the plant is very small?

hey guys, im very interested in growing so ive been reading over the stuff and gathering information etc.

One thing i have not understood is why some people like to flower plants at a very small height (eg - 12")
Is there a reason for this? I thought the bigger the plant the more weed there is (and thus more efficient)
or would it have something to do with space constraints?

Thanks guys.

There are many reasons...some are time and space and alot of it is the instant gratification of this generation. We want it and want it now!

Fair enough. But as far as efficiency and bigger yield goes, its better to wait a bit before flowering?

space restrictions mostly. also artificial lighting doesent have the penatration that the sun has. a 10' tall tree gets the same strenght light at the top as it does the bottom under the sun. but under HID lighting a 3' tall plant can be getting very poor light near the bottom, making for a very ineffecient grow.

that and the fact that most 1' tall plants will grow to be 2-3' tall when flowered.

it totally depends on your equipment and growing area. higher power lights can grow bigger plants because they get better light penetration. if you have side-lighting it will help aid in growing taller plants. if you have cfl's or anything less than a 600w hps i would NOT recomend growing monsters.

Also, with CFL growing you want too keep your plants small so you can get light to the majority of the plant easier. its much easier to light a 1-2ft plant than a 3-4 ft one with cfls. it can be done though.

The longer the VEG cycle, the more the yield.
Consider this, in nature, outdoors, in middle America, we plant a seed in mid to late April. It grows through April, May, June, July, and in mid to late July, as the sun's rays change, the plant naturally changes from VEG to FLOWER, with the diminishing sun's rays. That is nature's way. The plant grows and matures to an adult plant for about 3 to 4 months. THEN, it makes flowers. That is nature's way, God's way.
Indoors, in HYDRO with feeder tubes for a rapid start, we cut that time in half, by using 24/7 LIGHT. instead of 3 months, or 13 weeks, it takes about 6 weeks to become a mature plant in HYDRO, with 24/7 LIGHT.

OK, also in nature, we see most animals and humans reproduce at maturity or adulthood. If a human, (or dog, or cat or any animal) is forced to make babies before maturity, like getting a 12 yr old girl pregnant, then the babies are weak, or runts, or deformed, and just not at their best.
A MOD here, a most experienced, knowledgable grower named fdd2blk taught me a long time ago, that it does not make sense, it is not wise, it is not logical, to make a child have a child, and it is not wise or smart or logical to make an immature baby plant, have babies. LET THE BABIES GROW UP INTO ADULTS AND LET THE ADULTS MAKE BABIES.

If you will VEG for 5 weeks, to 6 weeks, you will have more time for proper TOPPING, PRUNING, AND FIMMING, and you'll get bigger plants,MORE BUDS, HIGHER YIELD, and you will also have a mature adult plant, ready to make healthy, stronger babies (flowers) .

If you begin Indica Flowering, after VEGGING 3 weeks, you will harvest about 60% to 75% of what you would have harvested, IF you had waited and VEGGED for 5 or 6 full weeks.

This info applies to rapid growing in Hydro, and to Indica strains. NOT slowly in SOIL, and NOT Sativa.

I CAN average 3 to 4 ounces per plant, VEGGING 5 to 6 weeks, and once I got 7 ounces from one plant, the one you see at my signature. I got that with planned, proper Topping and Pruning and Fimming, and creating more tops or cola sites by Topping often. 13 major branches is alot for one plant.

If you have smaller plants you can fit more in your room, so you can grow more varieties, more colas (the colas are the best part), denser buds (because they get more light), and possibly a more efficient grow if you can fit them in nice and snug as opposed to having one huge plant that streatches all over the place... plus more room for error... if on little plant dies then chuck it... if you've got one or two big plants and they die or get pests, you've got to start all over... I bet there are even more advantages... Big plants require more light/nutes/containers...
