Why does it look this way????

I've been vegging for about 33 days with a dual spectrum 250 HPS in a medium sized cabinet. The strain is a G13 Royal Kush. It is my first grow and I've had some issues but the plant seems off to me. It is extremely dense and the fan leaves seem to curl. It is getting the right amount of water, and it is at least a foot from the bulb. Does it look normal to you???

It could be from overwatering or the plants soil is still moist and your adding more water to it. That or maybe nut burn?

looks like over watering cut like 4 decent sized holes on the bottom and get saucers water when the soil is dry when you stick your finger tips in the soil. usually every 2-4 days depending on your room temp

Thanks, seems pretty obvious to you guys. Will give the plant some time to breathe. It has holes at the bottom, but I have probably been giving it too much.

Don't be afraid to shove your finger into the container on the side away from the root main root mass to see if it needs water or not. You can start picking the container up periodically and start to understand when it needs water just by it's weight.

Also you can pick up a soil moisture measure thing at local nusery stick it in the soil and it will give you a accute reading of when to water

If I cut back the water will the plant recover? I have never seen the plant look very healthy but it keeps growing. Does overwatering cause irreversible damage?

Yes it will recover if you cut back on the watering, but dont do anything drastically, plants and people alike dig slow change. Just water with about 25% of what you normally would for the next 5-6 days, and if you've been watering daily, start alternating. I dont think over watering causes irreversible damage, i think it just stunts growth and creates an anaerobic root zone.

maybe a bit of a p def. ??

i'm gonna be honest. i run the liquid gold method. yeah.........google it. i use pee. fresh pee. diluted. don't use pee when you are drinking. don't use the first pee of the day. take your vitamins and eat healthy. follow that guide and you're squirting pure gold every time you piss.

if you did google it you will see that our pee contains good ratios of n-p-k as well as other things. mix that with some still water(irish still water has lots of good stuff in it), and you're set.

that said......i'm weird. lol. :P

Biggest and most common problem for most beginners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OVERWATERING.

You see a problem that you think is a def.....You water with nutes.
Someone says no man, that's burn........You water to flush.
You see your leaves droop as a result......You water because you think the plant is asking for some.
Brown spots appear on your drooping leaves......You water more to flush what you think MUST be nute burn.

Your plant is now dead. :(

Read up man. Read and read and read and read. :peace:

Excellent. Thanks for the info.

The hardest thing to do is just let it sit there. I'm constantly fucking with the plant, and that is probably what causes so many problems (too much nutes or water). The one thing I noticed when I started adding more water was the smell went away. It was a very strong weed odor, now it is more like a pine needle smell. I will read up on P levels.

I will hold off on the addition of my urine, not there yet.

Thanks again.

The old pot that I had it in was too small, and probably was rootbound...and didn't really have the proper drainage. Aunt Edna's pot should be big enough. Now that I have cut back the water the leaves are hard and seem wrinkly. This was the original reason that I over watered them. Could it be the light? I had a CFL that seemed to be fine, but once I changed to the dual spectrum 250 HPS the plant seemed to get brittle. From what I have read it is not too close...don't know why the plant is having trouble.

Frustrating....

I future you can mix in about 25% perlite by volume of your medium.
I often see here people talk about useing perlite for retaining moisture, but that is just plain wrong, perlite improves draining and gas exchange. Vermiculite is used to retain moisture as it has lots of large surface flat plates stacked agaisnt each other to hold moisture.
