Why do we call it 420? Is it because you're high for 4 hours and sober for 20?

That's my theory. I read that the theory that a bunch of kids in California smoked at 4:20 after school was made up.

No.. the story I've heard was about the kids smoking after school at 4:20.. they would meet up by a statue and were trying to find some growing plants, but never found em.. but they got high all the time while searching. Idk if its true or not, but this is the only story I've heard..

If you really think hard about it, 4:20 is just the perfect time of the day. There is no further explination other than there is no other time better in the day other than 4:20.. But I use to work in a social work office and apparently cops in S.F. City use the code "420" to identify pot smokers.. And this document was created in the 60's or so, so that is another theory to think about.

I doubt we'll ever know for sure, the other theory i see is that it was police code somewhere for drugs or something

i have heard both stories but the one about the cops is for sure tru and we just kinda addopted the number and the day, which happens to be Hitlers birthday. LOL.

are you serious?!?! lol, I never knew that, its kinda weird they just happened to call it bill 420 and it involves the # everyone knows(well, maybe if you lived under a rock you wouldnt) relates to mj, seems kinda unlikely to me too. lol

I thought it had to do with the growing season starting april 20th for outdoor growers...... maybe i'll google it

there are so many theories behind this number, but i think the "cop" theory seems more viable, kind of like how gangsters adopted the code number "187" which means murder...

as far as i know the story about the kids is the right one. they would smoke after school and reference it as "4:20" (for the time they'd be smoking) to use it as a code. they were going to be smoking at 4:20pm, so they would just use the phrase "420" to secretly talk about toking. like "hey man, cant wait for 420!" or "420 later today?" shit like that i think
