why do the leaves do this?

I usually look in at my plant about 3 times a day. When i get up i check to make sure the timer has kicked the lights and fan on. I check it again when i get home from work, to make sure everything is still in its place. Then i check it again before i go to bed.

maybe a bit over kill, but its in a make-shift grow box in my closet, so i worry about it all coming apart...

Ive notice though, that towards the late evening/night AND early in the morning the past few days, the leaves of the plant all point upward. While in the middle of the day they tend to lay flat. is this a normal night/day cycle? My plant is only 2 weeks from seed (2 weeks exactly today). So is this just what the leaves do when the stem grows up a bit more?

just making sure its not something in the environment thats causing it...like temp or humidity change. I dont know the temp or humidity in my closet? But since it seems pretty regular cycle, idk if this is normal?

yes i have a camera, and pictures in one of my other threads. but not of the leaves moving. i try not to take too many pictures if i dont have too....for clear reasons....

the leaves are not "drooping" or "curling" i should re-phrase...

Its like the branches make the leaves point upward at night and in the morning....but then they make the leaves lay flat during the day. They go from being parallel with the ground to going almost totally perpendicular over a 24 hour period. its been doing it every day for a few days now. i figure its normal, but just wanted to check

It's called phototropism; or the tendency of a plant to grow towards the "sun". So my guess is that your plant lies its leaves flat during the day to maximize light absorption. Pretty normal, I wouldn't worry about it. Happy growing

Only really happy plants seem to exhibit this behavior from my experience. If my plants all reach for the sky at high noon then relax as the dark approaches, I know they are happy and content.

i took a pic when i got home, its not pointed up quite as much as it has...but eh. just makin sure. i messed my first plant up, so im just being over cautious this time i guess. check my link in my sig for my new grow journal

better to be overcautious and undercautious

check out my journal in my sig. i have a picture of what im talking about. the latest two pictures to be posted in there are just hours apart and you can tell a huge difference in the orientation of the plant

If you would maybe some time lapse photography so we can get a look at it... they might be waiving?

here are some pics of what im talking about.

the first one is 12 days old...but its a good representation of what i mean by "flat"

the other 2 are just hours apart on day 14. the 2nd one where the plant is really pointed upward is 5 minutes before lights off.

The lights are on a timer, so the plant has the same dawn and dusk every day....

I had this problem aswell and it seemed like they were closing because of the light. It's nothing a perfect normal thing the plant does to stretch and grow. i wouldn't worry about it at all man. Good luck and happy smokn'

I found this had to do with both colder cab temps (65 and below) at night, and a room humidity too low during veg - in my experience. They are trying to protect themselves from losing too much moisture at night. Think about getting a cheap humidifier for the room (doesn't have to be in the box w em). do you have an RH monitor?

nah, im working with very limited space....

Even if i have a problem and dont have the space/money/capability of fixing, im still trying to figure out everything thats going on with the plant. just so i know. the humidifier might be possible...but there is NO room for it in or even near the grow box...i might be able to put it on a shelf in the top of my closet though

i would say its the humidity problem and not the temperature problem. my room is always hot. even if me and my room mate blast the AC all day i still have to run a floor fan in my room and sleep on top of the covers most nights...so i doubt the temp gets below 70-ish at night...

this is my space.... the foil is gone, and so is the plant that is in the foil picture. the "outside" the box picture is after i removed the foil and sprouted my new plant...

the advantages of using cfls i that they stay cool you can practically have them touching your plant. personally i like my plants staying short bushy all throughout my grow.stretching isnt something you really want but it wont hurt your plant just maybe the potential she has. you said your room was ac cooled you shouldn't have to wory about your humidity problems keep your lights low as possible put your hand under the light if you think u could kep your hand their for 12 hours 18 hours how ever you got your time cyle on without burning your hand your good my lights stay about 5 inchs away from my plants
