Why do clones need light?

I am not a botanist or anything but I was just thinking. Why is it sugested clones be placed under a CFL or Floro during rooting. Rooting is not a photosyntheticly intensive process like vegitative growth. Rooting is controled by hormones. Therefore woulden't it be theoretically possible to clone root in complete darkness?

It needs light cause roots used the sugars that the leaves produce. Can't have roots without leaves and leaves without roots

The basic simple anser is the plant uses photosynthesis to make food. The plant doest have roots yet so it used the stored nutrition in the leaves how doe it make food from this store nutrient layer? Photosynthesis and what does a plant need to do photosynthesis? light no light no photosynthesis, no photosynthesis no food, no food dead plant. That work for ya??

clones need light bcause they are green plants. just because your car runs on fumes doesnt mean you dont have to fill up. the same thing happens with plans, they can "run on fumes" but for how long? until the green is gone, this is part of the reason the leaves will turn yellow if left in the dark. late
